  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TXC 250 quit running

A Class
Hello all,

This is my first post and I need a little advice. I purchased a 2011 txc 250 about 35 days ago, and have put about 12 hours on the bike. Yesterday I was riding and it just died. I was able to restart it but it would just backfire and die. My dealer is two weeks out before they will even look at it. I have a service manual but really need some advise on where to start.

To recap, it will idle for a few min then dies. If I give it gas it backfires and dies. I have done nothing as of yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

Did you ever hear your fuel pump priming/does your fuel pump prime for 2-3 seconds when you put the kill button to RUN?

The fuel pump does run every time the kill switch is turned on. It is behaving like it is out of time, backfiring in the exhaust. I am no bike mech but am handy with small engines and it is either lean popping or the spark is out of time. So either the injector is messed up, or something in the ignition system is malfunctioning. I decided to bring it to the dealer, but disappointed that my riding season is likely over. I will post the results of the issue when I know in approximately two weeks....

Make sure the rubber seal in the gas cap is pushed all the way up in there. I like to make sure the edges are tucked neat and flat under the last threads. I know it sounds crazy, but I had the same symptoms and that was the issue.

I went thru the same thing with my 12 TXC 310 we swapped out tanks, injector, ECU and plug and nothing seem to fix the problem, so the last thing we check was the valves and I had one exhaust valve that was out of position. The keeper allowed the valve to slip a little which cause the back fire and popping but i was very lucking to catch it because the motor could of blew up. Had to buy a new valve, keepers and seal.

As Geno says, it does have the potential to be a sheared flywheel key or maybe a blocked filter in the fuel tank causing fuel starvation. You'll need a flywheel puller to check the key, unless it's really loose!

It turns out I somehow fouled a plug while riding a fully warmed up bike. Seems to work though. Feel kinda dumb, but I have never had a plug foul so suddenly like that before. Thanks to all who posted their knowledge. I am sure I will have some questions in the future.
