  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE449 Starting Problems

A Class
I have a 2011 TE-449 that I purchased back in December, 2010. I have had a lot of trouble starting the bike once it is warm. When the bike cold, the bike starts just fine. Once the bike is warmed up, it is a real pain to start. I often have to try to start the bike 3 to 4 times. The engine will turn over and either not fire, intermittently fire, or fire after I twist the throttle just a little. I have had this problem the entire time that I have owned the bike. The bike currently has 600 miles on it. I have taken the bike from stock (no FI jumper) to stock (w/ FI Jumper) and still had problem. Then I bought a JD tuner and played around with the low setting and still had the problem. Then I purchased a FMF powercore slip on and readjusted the JD tuner again and I still have the warm starting problem. Help****************************************

OK, I strongly suspect that your problems will go away if you do the following :
1. Make sure that the EFI air bypass screw is on the the correct setting
2. Perform a soft reset of the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

My SMR has similar issues, I'll try to TPS reset (completely forgot about it) when I get a chance.

Hi, i have a TE510 2009 model and didn't know about a TPS reset, is it just a button somewhere or do i need any software to do this?

12TC250,449/511s on this side (Keihin) <-------> 250/310/450/510's on this side (Mikuni)

answer is your bike 09TE510 needs IBEAT (computer with Ibeat software and cable) to change TPS.

Did the TPS reset on my SMR while hooking up a battery tender, (already have the bypass screw at 2.5 turns) and what a difference it's made, not as jerky at low revs but more importantly it'll only stall if I'm being a clown at low revs.

TE511 Air Bypass EFI Adjustment

2 ¼ turns out for a TE511 (+/- 1/8th of a turn) should put the minimum air bypass back in range.

It is the only screw on the throttle body that should, or can, be touched without major drama.

If the screw is too far out it will push you into a corner like having the throttle open a bit.

Sam, whats your idle rpm?

Sam, whats your idle rpm?

Actually, I have never cheched it electronically. I have just gone by feel.
I try to keep the idle RPM low enough so the gears do not crunch too much when I engage 1st gear, and just high enough to avoid flameouts / stalls.
Mine runs good. No issues.

I know this thread is a little old, but thought I'd share my recent issue. A couple weeks back I took my 11 TE449 for a hundred mile ds ride. On a single track loop she finally did the cursed flame out dropping into a tight uphill turn. It had never done it in the first 380 mi. of mixed riding. Then it of course was a pain in the ass to start again. It happened twice more before returning to the old road where I could open it up. It still proved hard to start after a gas stop and a call to my lady to let her know I was ok. Both times required a careful crack of throttle to get it to do more than pop and die.

Fast forward to this weekend after returning from vacation...the Husky was all clean and ready to go since I had given it a bath before leaving. It acted like it was hot and wouldn't start w/out cracking the throttle! Then it would not stay running unless I held the throttle open a touch. Disgusted, I decided then and there it was time for the damn smog can to go since it was out of warranty.

Yesterday after work the can came off and a I did a TPS reset. Did the reset twice just to be sure. It fired right up several times even after it ran long enough to turn on the fan. It also dropped into a lower idle than normal and throttle response was awesome, much better than before, even after switching to map II.

Hoping to get a ride in this evening to see how she performs. Still trying to avoid buying a JD even though it seems like most Huskys should come with them.

Huskynoobee, check two relay connection blocks part number 8000A6749. Water in these stopped my 2011 te 449

I looked at all the connectors while the side panels were off so I could de-smog and reroute the line that comes off the check valve from the tank vent. I'm always very careful with the hose when washing since it has more connectors than some cars I have owned under there. I didn't get home in time for my ride so maybe today is the test day. I did start it up and it was just fine though.
