  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE310 Valves out of spec, question

Mulley

Husqvarna
A Class
2011 TE310 with 12 port injector, ECU swap and Akro slip-on. I have access to IBeat as well.

I just purchased this bike a few months ago. The previous owner noted only one valve adjustment at 50hrs in his log but didn't list the shim changes.

Here are my measurements. In particular I'm worried about the starboard (right) exhaust. It measured at .533mm and spec is .20mm. That seems like an awful lot to me. The bike is running like total shit, especially when hot.

How much out of spec is too much? Should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance for helping out a noob.

All of them need to be re-shimmed, they are all loose and I would advise buying a kit with many different sizes, like a Hot Cams kit. I measure the shims I put in, often they are not the size that are stamped on them.

Sorry, I guess I didn't explain well. I've already ordered a full shim kit. I bought Wiseco. My question is that one valve is really out of spec. Should I be worried that I have engine damage or a bad valve. I don't know much about engine building so I'm not really sure how much is too much.

Has anyone had to replace valves on these? The bike has 2000 mostly offroad miles on it.

OldHuskyRider is correct, all the clearances are out of spec.

Clearance range per sticker on port side fork leg:

IN .10-.15 mm
EX .20-.25 mm

I wouldn't worry too much about it, get 'em all shimmed with micrometer measured replacements, and ride it, check the gaps again in 500 miles and you should be happy then.

Thanks, that makes me feel a little better. So far my Husky experience has been awfull. I love the setup and the suspension but I haven't had any luck with the engine. Maybe getting the valves back in spec will get me back on track. Hopefully I get it shimmed and ride this weekend.

I thought someone at one point had made a video on how to adjust valves on these motors any able to find it? Searching has yielded no results for me.

Tight is more of a problem. Valve stretch, seat damage. I bet your measurements are off on the loose side. I will always rather hear the valves ticking then silence.

The 2006 model has a totaly different head and motor.

Spin the motor multiple times and recheck. It's possible to to check when the piston is not on TDC and get a false reading.

In your case those valves are rather loose.

I believe they should be quite noisy with the motor running. Are they?

Be tender with the cam cap bolts, They are 5mm and strip easily!

Use a torque wrench to tighten. Check the manual for specs.
