  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 te310 starter fail, sort of

AA Class
The starter on my bike sort of failed over the holidays. The motor still spins at speed with the button, but something else has failed with the connection to the engine. Bike of course is now out of warentee...great (g).

After 4 days of kicking the beast, I'm ready to have it fixed but on the plus side I'm thankful to have a kick starter.

Does the bike start using the kick starter? My 2011 te310 won't start but I can start it using the kick starter or jumping it.

same thing happened to me yesterday after having all starter related stuff replaced at dealer for the standard starting issues. my bike only has 115 miles. let the new years fun begin.
Standard starting issues????????? Haven't had to replace a starter on a single XLite as a standard around these parts, the 2010's had some quality control issues in the starters but from 2011 on the starter mechanism as a whole has been pretty reliable as a standard

I had the starter on my 2010 te250 replaced do to it would get hot and not being able to turn over the motto.

My 11 te310 acts like something between the starter motor itself and the 90 degree gears let loose. You can hear the speed of the motor turning.

The bike kicks over and is hit or miss if the hot start lever helps any. The big key is it has to be in neutral. There is times it would fire right up or it would take 5 or 6 kicks.

There is no hot start lever...that lever on the clutch perch is more of a cold start (enrichening) lever. You're not supposed to use it once the bike is warm.

Neutral is a necessity on my 2010 TXC 250 also. I've gotten to where I can almost always get it to start with 1.5 kicks if I have the proper footing. I push the kick start lever down to the peg and then bring it back up and give it one quick kick.

I think I got a bit lucky. I pulled the starter today, 4 allen head bolts hold it on. When I pulled the cap off the end, I found that the nut that holds on the 45deg gear to the output shaft had come off and the woodruff key slid out of the shaft. I was able to re assemble the shaft / gear and seems to be fine. Surprisingly there is no locking nut or washer under the nut.

If you take the starter apart, be warned that there is a couple of radial thrust bearing that can shed needle bearings pretty easily. There really isn't much to this starter assymbly.
