  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Need a little help on this one. I pulled the battery and was storing it inside because it is winter here. I went and put the battery back in and hooked it up. Turned the key and I get nothing. Usually you heard the EFI priming the bike but I don't even get that. I am unable it kick start or jump start the bike but if I kick it over and push the button at the same time it will attempt to turn over but never start. The battery voltage is fine and I did try another battery from a different bike and still nothing. I checked all 3 fuses and everything looks good what am I missing? Would rather not have to go back to the dealer 100+ miles if I can afford.

Clutch position has no affect neither does the decompression level. The kill switch is in the correct position and the gas is on. I think the major clue is that when I turn the key I get nothing. It seams like something in the electronics is preventing it from priming the fuel system and making it so I won't start.

Does the fuel pump relay click when you flip the fuel pump on? You have three relays (black boxes) near the three small fuses on the right side of the subframe. One of them is for the fuel pump and should click. If no click, you might try swapping them around. Did you also check the larger fuses on the starter relay? (where the positive cable from the battery goes) How long was it stored? Did it have gas in it? Any possibility that gas could have gummed up the fuel pump?

Also, I was warned not to use the kicker and button at the same time on these X-Lites as it could potentially launch the worm gear out of your case.

Those fuses may LOOK OK but there are some with tiny cracks. Just get new ones or test them to be sure. Several people have reported this.

+1 to this tip, and I would check the grounding of the battery, really both connections, file or sand the battery posts and the connection rings.

Don't ever do this again, very very bad idea. I've seen the worm gear casing blow out of the engine case pulling the threaded bosses with it when the bike tried to fire after the kick stroke and had a backfire type of event while the starter was still engaged,......which isn't that uncommon to happen on a bike not working properly to begin with.

It was a 20 amp fuse on the non kick start side of the bike. The quick manual that came with the bike doesn't even talk about those fuses thanks phoenix! You saved me a trip to the dealer. Bobby the only reason for trying both at the same time was to simply aid in my diagnosing the problem.
