  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 Te250 front fork issue

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hey guys,

I have a near new 2011 TE250 with about 4 rides on it,
The last ride out about half way through the day my front forks all of a sudden went soft to the point of when sitting on the bike I could push the front end down about a third of the way with one hand.
There isn't any oil leaking anywhere, I haven' ridden the bike for about 2 weeks, but when I push the front end Down the forks feel fine.

Any suggestions?

I'd be weary of a broken spring or the valve shims coming loose from the base valve piston assembly. I'm not sure what else could cause a sudden Drop, or softening of them. After forks have broken in its a good idea to replace the oil. Maybe you should do, or have them done sooner to have a look inside them. Make sure you didn't loose the air bleed screws on the top caps too!

These forks aren't making any noise? Looking inside them is a good idea and stopping riding till you know what is wrong is another good idea...

I have just done fork seals on my te310 and was told that if you are strapping your bike down wedge a peice of wood between the top of the front tyre and the bottom yoke so the down pressure is on the tyre and not the fork seals. sounds like good advice...

good luck with your investigations.

Take the front wheel off. Remove both fork tube assemblies. Place a fork tube on the ground and push down on it. It should be very firm, and spring back strongly to full extension, with no real noise, maybe a little spring scraping the tube. Both tubes should feel equal in their strength and rebound, provided they are both clickered the same. You will probably find that one of the two has bought the farm.

I took the bike back to the dealer they said nothing wrong with them and thats normal so they reckon,
I turned the clickers up a bit which has made them better, but I am still not 100% happy, looks like I will have to take them to a shocker specialist and get them done properly.

I think they need to be taken apart to confirm the valving and springs are in proper order.

+1

If you can tell the difference by just pushing on them with your hand then there's something really wrong. Like, the spring broke or something unscrewed itself or all the fluid leaked out.

At the very least; unscrew the top cap, pull the spring and take a look.

And while you have them apart, change the crap oil in them, makes them 100% better with decent oil.
