  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TE250 ANY ISSUES?

AA Class
Hey guys,
I just purchased a new 2011 TE250 , is there any issues I need to know about?
cheers.

I have 400 or so miles on mine. No really issues. Some stalling at low RPM's ( I am getting the J.D kit on next week). My shifter seems to find neutral to often when shifting from 1st to second. Not good when climbing hills of accelerating in deep sand. Seems like mine is breaking in and running better every time I ride it ! Enjoy

Changed the counter sprocket to a 12 and put the big Husky sprocket on the back. Rides great in the woods and no stalling at all.

Fantastic handling/ quality built bike. Its is getting known that most will eventually need(if not right away) a TPS recalibration. Also the JD fuel injection tuner is a must have in my opinion. Allows you to adjust on the fly.

I agree with the 12T counter sprocket if you will ride tight single track.

I am picking up a 2011 TE 250 for my son tomorrow. I am planning to not power up until after the 6 month warranty. What are the recommended mods that can be done right away?

I would not worry about the warranty so much ? If your son is a good rider he will be frustrated with the bike the way it is shipped(compared to Jap bikes and KTM). Like Jason said " this bike has the best handling, suspension and breaking" than anything... IMO the 12 port/ 2012 TXC ecu upgrade is WAY BETTER than any after market fuel tuner........Plug & Play, running stock gearing 13/50 in the tight stuff, with no stalling issues. It still retains the duel map and Rips like it should have when I IMGP0002.JPG bought it........My bike has 1,300 on the OD and is running perfect now. Check out the EFI Form here on CH.

I have a 2010 with 1300 km and am using Powercommander/autotune with the 50t sprocket on the rear. The bike just plain rips. Have only had it two months and been riding mostly open area rides. Hoping to get into the Teak forest this weekend (where I ride MTB) to get a notion whether I should go to a 12t counter sprocket for tight stuff. So far i'm really stoked with this bike. The suspension is flawless.

We got the bike home Saturday and quickly looked into the box of stuff they gave us. First thing we did was remove the air box restrictor. Second was to remove the rear wheel and pop on the 50 tooth sprocket and longer chain. We did have an issue with a bolt that vibrated loose.

I found quite a few loose fasteners on my TE310. Must have gotten that Friday afternoon bike.

My front engine mount was loose. I checked every bolt and nut I could see.

The more I ride mine, the more I like it (with the new 12 port injector/ECU) and upgraded knobby tires (no JD tuner). Only ridden mine about 200KM. I did notice a few loose bolts/screws too and my whole signal/license plate mount came loose and got ripped off by the back tire.. Love the look of this bike.. sexy :)

Nice looking bike. Sooner rather than later, pull the swingarm and drop the steering tube and repack all the bearings with your favorite flavor of grease. I checked mine after a year and wish I had done it a lot sooner; they were pretty stingy with the grease from the factory on my bike..

Looks just like mine before I did the mod's including my custom all the way over wheelie that took care of the rear plate set up and blinkers. I replace the front and rear blinkers with the "Tusk" brand LED from Rocky Mountain. Put some Cycra hand guards on, JD kit and custom lowered it by changing tires and new springs front and back. Thing rocks for a 250. Looks like your sons came with the Karoo's . You'll want to lose those. Especially if the rear is the 140 size.

Too funny about all the "accidents" the license plate holder/blinkers seem to have. It is good to know he is not alone! Yeah the tires do not look very good. I have not ridden it yet to try it, my TE 449 tires are more aggressive and are Michelin I think. We have a 400 mile ride coming up and that will probably take care of them. The ride is Barstow to Baker to Laughlin & then back. Too much fun!

Those Karoos wear like iron; 400 miles won't wear them out. They are actually a decent 50/50 tire, but the front is downright dangerous in gravel. If you're going to keep the Karoos for an off-road trip, drop the pressure way, way down. I'd replace at least the front ASAP though.
