  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 te 310

I have had my 2011 TE310 for a 3 to 4 weeks now. In regards to fit questions for hyde skid plate and rad guards...

The hyde skid plate did not mount correctly given the frame differences noted above. Jay at Hyde is looking into a solution for me. I used the motospotz rad guards - they fit fine.

What about top speed (6th gear ~5000rpm) and tranny? Is it still very close ratio?

Thanks,

Burhan

The oil hose is a return breather from the frame.
The head breathes to the top of the frame and the frame on the TE310 returns it to engine, (closed loop style) through this fitting which is also the sump drain point.
The TE250 doesn't use a hose, it just vents it into the frame, then away to ground i think....
Bit of a Pain In The Ass to change the oil with a hose attached to the drain plug. :banghead:

I asked P3 about their Kevlar Bash Plate and they didn't know if it'd fit a couple months ago.

& thanks for the compliment.

The manual states that you should not remove this hose for oil changes but only loosen the hose clamp which only allows you to get an open end wrench on it...which rounds out the fitting. Ya have to take the hose off to get a box end on it! I don't see any reason this hose cannot be eliminated and replace the barb fitting with a drain plug from the 250. Input on this?

I have the Hyde plate on my son's 2010 TE 250. My son got me the same plate for my new 2011 310 for Christmas. Yes the frames are different but I had no issues mounting the Hyde plate. It does have extra room around the foot pegs, no biggie. Do NOT use the Hyde provided steel plate with the two riv-nuts to mount the plate. The riv-nuts can spin in the plate and make it nearly impossible to remove the plate. I had to drill out an allen bolt. I replaced the Hyde mount with two of those spring loaded automotive "tinnerman" clips with the same threads.

Radiator guards. I like the OFG (Old Fat Guy) Racing guards. Worked great on the 250 and the larger tank on the 310 required drilling a couple holes in the guards to mount the radiator fan. The fan is a tight fit.

Hi Clutch,

Thanks for the informrmation one the Hyde skid plate. Is is posible for you to put a link or picture of the type of bracket you used to make it work - i am not familiar with a "spring loaded automotive tinnerman clips". I spoke to Hyde a few times seems like a solution is not a priority right now.

Thanks

Iv'e had my 2011 310 since last oct here in england, had the 510 before which after 3hrs racing was a bit of a handfull. the 310 is so much easier to ride, nice and light in the tight stuff. i thought would miss the power of the 510 when it came to bogs and big long snotty hill climbs, but the 310s just awsome nothing seems to stop it and it pulls like a train!! VERDICT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Also called U-nuts. Can find them at any hardware store...

Yes, that is the type of clip except, like he states later, you want to use the ones with a real machine thread in them. You may have to drill a hole in the bike bracket to "move" the hole a little bit. Don't use riv-nuts!
BTW...they are the same clips used by Husky to hold on yur radiator shrouds as well as the front bolt where your plastic side panel attaches to the front tank panel. Cool!

finally got back home to try the Hyde skidplate.... holes at the rear do not match up to anything, cannot even ziptie it in place. Not impressed.
Where did you drill holes; in the bike or the skidplate?

I spoke to Hyde Racing a number of times thay are aware that the skid plate does not fit without modification. I did not want to take the spring clip approach because i did not want to drill into the frame - especially with the oil return line right above the drill point. I took a different approach.

First i cut the bracket in half so that it will fit in the small square at the bottom of the frame at the attachement point. I scewed one of the bolts in with loctite and got a washer and nut.

Then i drilled a new hole in the skid plate. The center one is the new one.

The new bracket is place in the small square in the bottom of the frame. The bracket should sit where the EOM skid plate attaches so that you stay away from the oil line. See below.

Bolt it and it seems to be working fine.

I still can't believe that oil drain bolt. Anybody know what is involved with changing that to 2010 style?

Finally.
Meca'System have a made a bash plate that mounts exactly like the original plastic cheese item.
It hooks in underneath and attaches by ONE bolt at the front.
And its designed for the 2011 frame instead of the 2011.

Very nice of you to take the time to give detailed information & pictures. :)
