  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 TC449 Q's - Map Switch, Jumper, Map#3, Airbox, Breather, Oil weight

Gomerz

Husqvarna
A Class
Hi everyone, this is my first post here, I just bought a new old stock 2011 TC449. I have done a bunch of reading and found different answers to the question below so I thought I would start a new topic to cover them all in one place. I also just got back from my first ride. Nice bike.

I have a few q's please:
- Is the Jumper that is referred to here only applicable to the TE and TCX models, ie not the TC?
- Does this mean the ecu reflash to put it into MAP#3 mode does not need doing on the TC?
- Is it possible to update the 2011 to 2012 spec allowing me to change maps whilst the engine is still running?
- Is the updated air box on the 2012 only the cover that has the 4 mesh covered windows to allow more air in? If so if I get this lid for my bike will the fueling be off?
- I read someone used an extended breather hose to fix the oil puking problem, can you elaborate and give photos please?
- I also read that I should use different weight oil, not 0w-40, what weight please?

Thanks again I look forward to learning more about my new bike from you guys as well as time in the seat.

Cheers,

That switch on your handlebars is your jumper.

TCs have different maps. Check with Tinken at Zip-Ty. You may have to go with Power Commander to adjust as you wish, or at least at JD Tuner so you can richen it. I use JD on my TXCs and find it to work quite well; if not as perfect at PCV or Map 3 its way better than any carbed bike Ive ridden.

Im not aware that on they fly map switching is possible, but my TC knowledge is limited.

That is the difference, and more airflow will likely lean it out a bit.

Ive seen this on a couple of bikes. New hose is used, not hooked into airbox, but run up under front of seat area and capped with breather filter. I think the Zip-Ty vent relocator is a more elegant path and it allows you to keep the hose fed into the airbox.

Oil choices border on religion.... Ive used both 0w40 and 10w40. Currently using the lighter stuff. Dont go heavier and make sure youre using high quality synthetic and change regularly....youre only using a liter or so.

Also, when searching you will find a lot more 511 posts than 449 but all the information is interchangable.

PC5 on the TC. And yes, pick up the 2012 TC449 air box lid @$23.99 USD, which will make the engine snappier and produce more power @ 7000+rpm's. Check intake horn to see if you have the updated 53mm or the old 49mm, bigger is better. Mobil1 0W40/Shell T6 5W40.

Thanks guys, I will check the air inlet to see, but I think I will have the smaller one as the ECU is from the 2011 parts manual.

Cheers,

Hi Tinken,

Are any of those two oils you suggested motorcycle oils?

Mobil1 0W40/Shell T6 5W40. Both wet clutch safe. I like Motul 300V 5W40, but it is very expensive compared to the Mobil and Shell.

Thanks mate, I'm not a fan of Motul, a few engines that have used it have gone bang that I know of. I compared the cSt of both those and I will go with Oleon 10w40 as it is similar to those but designed for motorcycles and Oleon develop their oil with race teams feedback after teardowns post events.

It's not the brand I'm concerned with here, it's the starting and ending weight. 89 cSt is what the Oleon 10W40 begins with which looks like a good choice  , their 5w40 is 105 and I would not use that one. This Kymco 449 engine uses very fine oil spray jets to deliver oil to it's bearings and flow is everything. We remove the crankshafts from the 449s and re-cut the oil galleries, the bearings and the rod journals in order to flow more oil through the bearings. It is here that the zero weight oil really comes into play.

We are also a race team and we use Mobil1 and Torco in our shop, but I never recommend the Torco because it is too expensive. I have ran Mobil1 0W40 in my 511 since day one, in another thread, I explained how my engine is torn completely down to put a new wide-ratio transmission in. Inside, my engine looks brand new, and the tolerances are as if it just came off the factory floor. :)

I think you promised a ride report about a week ago:cool:.
When I was at the shop Ty was saying it is not the funnest motor to pull out or put back:cheers:.
I know, can't ride it until I get the head & piston back from the machine shop.
