  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2011 tc250???

Ok its time to upgrade from my CRF450r which i have enjoyed immensely both in the bush racing and trailriding and on the mx track. It was however a love hate relationship till I fitted a flywheel weight then it was all love!!! However I find myself needing to upgrade and I feel that something slightly lighter through the trees and on the mx track may be interesting which brings me to the tc250. Looks good, seems light if you can believe the 97kg dry weight claims and its got me thinking. What about power? Will I miss the 450 or will I be hitting myself for not making the change earlier. Any feedback to help me turn to a husky would be great.

I had an '05 CRF450 I bought to race flattrack. I only rode it about 5 times before lowering it, etc. The 5 times I rode it were all trails. I loved that bike for the motor. Most of the flattrack guys still run the '05-'08 bikes because of the motor. However, for trails as you said it is love/hate.

I decided to go with the '10 TC250 because I wanted a green sticker do all bike I could ride with my family, and possibly race at some point. I wanted to go with a small bore, because I mostly ride trails and GP style of tacks. I have more fun on a smaller bike. For trails, I believe smaller displacement bikes are better. I can keep up with my fast buddies on my wife's 125 and easily hang with my '10 TC250. On the motocross and GP tracks the TC250 also does fine against the bigger bikes. However, you have to really push the bike and ride cleanly. You also do not have that instant rush of torque that is so fun with a big bore.

The truth is I would have bought a 250/300 2 stroke if I did not have to worry about the green sticker. I think you get the best of both worlds: light bike and big bower. They also can be easily adapted to both trail and race.

As far as the '10 TC goes. I have had it for about 10 months. I absolutely love it. It is probably the best handling bike I have ever ridden. The suspension is great for aggressive trail riding or beginner MX. However, it is no 450. Again, I really do not need all that power, but it is fun. If you mostly drag race and ride open, fast terrain get another 450. If you ride a variety of terrain the 250s work fantastic. I have not had any problems with the TC, except for: a lose motor mount bolt the first ride, a leaky kick start shaft seal, and a leaky shock (fixed under warranty. I fixed the seal myself. It starts 1-2 kicks whether it is warm or been sitting for 2 weeks. I only use the hot start after crashing or laying it on its side to help one of my families members on the trail. My buddy just bought a KTM 450exc. We drag raced up a long fast hill (think of a sand dune type of hill) and my bike pulled about 1/2 of a length on him by the end (on a worn tire). He was upset.

To setup the TC for tails I put handguards, replaced the plastic skid plate with an aluminum version, and geared it down one tooth on the sprocket.

But do not get me wrong. The TC is not perfect in all conditions. In general, all the power is in the mid-high range. It works best when ridden hard (like all MX bikes). It will pull down to a pretty low RPM, but will not crawl without clutch work. From what everyone says, the bike really wakes up with an aftermarket exhaust. I have not even ridden mine without the sparky, and do not really feel a need to. It is very quiet.

Working on the bike is pretty straight forward. The oil changes are pretty easy because the tranny and engine oil are not separated like Hondas (although that means more oil changes for the worry wart types). The drain bolt is in a stupid place though. My bolt likes to cross thread. There is a little screen that leaves junk and metal flakes (if any) on the threads when removed...a stupid design.

You are welcome to try my bike out if you are ever in the Hollister, CA area.

I had an 07 Honda 450R and my son has the 2010 Tc 250 and I can honestly say I agree with everything JS just wrote. I will add that with a LeoVince exhaust and re-jetting my sons Tc runs way way better than it did stock. He ran faster MX lap times on it than he did his 450 or 505 KTM SX bikes. TC 250's are great bikes IMO.

Ive never had a 4T 450 but i have had a 125 2T, 250 2T and a yamaha 250 4T. The '11 TC250 is, for the best offroad bike ive ever ridden, its light, punchy enough and revvy enough, and i totally believe the 97kg. Altho im an amateur, some of our club's fastest riders have tried it and their only comments are "How much?" So far its been totally reliable, altho in typical Husky fashion, getting spares has been sluggish
