  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Have a 2011 tc 449 was having trouble starting with the electic start only wish it had a backup kick.....anyways battery was toast bought a new shoria battery with the lithium iron technology works great but there is one problem. If I first start my bike on he first go it fires right up every time but if I kill start it and try to start it again it take at least 10 sec to crank to start the bike. I'm a noob to small engines and I'm doing my best to read the manual but I'm at a loss. Please help. FYI bike has about 20 hours on it and I ride it like I stole it. Thanks

My TE449 does this too. A little throttle when cranking lets it fire right away, but I'm not sure this is the correct solution.

Adjust the idle up to give more fuel at start up.
This will also help your TE, but re-flashing the TE's ecu is a better solution.

Wow a local guy with a tc449. The choke has a throttle adjuster built into it just give it a turn 2 clicks clockwise and it should throttle it up a bit when starting if its to much just back it off a click 562-96fivefourJim give me a shout if needed

Tried out your idea to idle up it was counter clock wise on my bike. Also I never even knew my bike had a choke I'm such a noob to this bike still learning something new about it everyday. I used the cold start and my bike fired up in about two cranks. Didn't even know I had that option. Fuel injected didn't think it had a choke. Thanks for the tip Jim got me in the right direction

Dom, try a TPS reset too. But if you really wanna do it right, let Tinken give your ECU the love it deserves.

I have a 2011 and 2013 TC449, They are spot on for fuel mixture with a JD tuner on the dyno but I need to use the "choke" when starting them hot or else it will crank forever. Think it is just nature of the beast. They will eventually start but its easier to just reach down for a quick second and pull the knob out..

I think you would see a big difference between the powercommander and the JD. The fine tuning alone would be a big difference, but the real power increase is with the timing control.

Thanks r. Stephen that's what I wanted to hear. This would have helped awhile ago on a ride and I cranked my bike till the battery died. Such a noob. Only downside to this bike is no backup kick start!!

I've bump started my TE a couple of times when I decided to riding with a weak battery.

It started fine.

Hey huskynoobie what was your procedure for the bump start. Choke out second gear a couple mph Vroooom or what? I only ask because I've tried to bump start my bike for about 5 km down a hill and it never fired but I never had the choke out because I didn't know I had one. Still wish this bike had a backup kick but oh we'll.

Only the TC has the 'choke'...TE and TXC handle the startup fast idle just like your car...automagically

Now that you have adjusted your idle I bet it will bump start....closest Ive come to that scenario is when locking up the brakes and killing it I can release clutch and it will bump start...1st or 2nd gear
