  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

So I just drained my oil and it came out all white....water is in my transmission oil...where should I be looking for the source?

Sceep, thanks...I've been asking around and someone suggested Head gasket or water pump seal? Next question is how do I flush this stuff out? multiple oil changes..? And could there be any long-term damage done because of this?
 
I use mineral spirits ( not the white stuff in Home Depot), fill and drain a couple of times then follow up with cheap 10/40w a couple of times,
then fill with the good stuff. I have thought about filling with denatured alchohol to pull out the water.
 
If it was the o-ring in the head (They dont have a gasket) water would be coming out of your exhaust too and it would be intensly hard to start.

Drain oil, refill - run for 1/2 hour then do it again.

Dont worry about kero or anything. Just use the cheapest oil you can find for the flush out.

If it is the o-ring then you can change them without even taking the tank off its so easy.

dont think its my head gasket, the bike runs great and starts easy, and no external leaks
 
Sometimes the aluminum clutch discs will leave the oil looking whitish/grayish. I had a Honda that did this and I replaced the aluminum discs with all steel discs and it never did it again.

I think if it was water it would be more hot chocolate color. Also did you measure how much came out? Thinking is if it was water leaking into the case it would have made the quantity alot more than should have come out. If it was enough to change the color.
 
well i changed the oil a few time since the last underwater excursion. The guys at Halls says that the water pump seal is the usual suspect so i ordered and ill check it after the next ride,
 
yah its the water pump seal. Just got done doing mine. After u get it replaced do flush it out couple times.
Hi, so I called Halls and they concur with the suggestion that the water pump seal is the culprit. I am going to replace the water pump seal, I've never done it before...any suggestions? Is there a sticky or video that you can recommend? I am handy on a bike but I am open to suggestions....
 
Yep that is definitely water. The aluminum would make it much more gray. Never done a water pump seal, so if you end up with some good tips let us know!! Good luck.
 
Ha, excellent timing. Changed mine to the same last night, ended up tearing down and going through everything. It's gotta be the water pump seal on mine as well, but I'm trying to find how to pull that bastard apart to replace it.
 
I know on mine you have to remove the left side cover or which ever side the clutch is on and remove the impeller shaft. Getting the seal out is a different story. Dont know the correct way to do it it just takes time and patience.
