  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 2010 WR250 jumping out of 2nd gear

AA Class
My 2010 wr250 has started to sometimes jump out of 2nd gear not every time but sometimes. It has only done 14 hours so surely it is not wear. Has anyone else had this problem?

Well I also had this issue a few times, loosing second gear on my 2010 WR300. But it is pretty much not happening anymore. I related it to a slightly bent shift lever and that I wasn't moving the lever far enough to fully engage the next gear.

Even so I can't wait to install the wide ratio gearbox and when I do I'll use loctite on this screw to be sure they doesn't come loose. I'll probably wait for the summer-break as this maintenance will take some more time as I will probably change all the lower end bearings, probably a new rod and maybe a new nikasil coating ...

Cheers

I pulled the clutch out of the bike to check the screw and sure enough it had back it self out 2 turns and the other 2 screws in that assembly were on there way out as well. Amazing that this happened at 19hours. Hopefully that sorts out the problem. Will up date after going for a ride in a couple of weeks.

How many hours on the engine? Crank, rod and cylinder looked brand new after 300+ hours on my 09 WR250.

It seems the 2010s were the only bikes to have the shift drum screw come loose and most of them came loose early on.

I put loctite 243 on mine before I even rode it as I had heard about this from the abovementioned thread!
Have not had any probs with it since!
Hopefully yours will be cured now to!

My engine is also having +300hrs, not 100% sure because the previous owner didn't had an hour meter, maybe 400hrs in total, not bad for the first bottom end and cylinder, well even piston because I'm on the second 'B' still

The screw came loose on my 2011. I'm not sure on how many hours due to not having an hour meter, but my guess would be around the 50 hour mark.
