  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 2010 WR125 Gas Tank

Any news on a larger tank for the 2010 WR125 yet?
I'm holding out on purchasing one due to it not being able to make 2+ hrs on one tankfull.

I'm still waiting too.

I contacted P3 a couple of weeks ago. He told me they are working on a mold and they DO have plans for a polyethylene tank (3gal or so).

IMS and Clarke told me hands down, no plans for one.

Meanwhile: yesterday I mounted an Acerbis 5ltr fork-tank (lunch-box). Looks like crap but it drains first so the impact is minmal handling wise and now I've over 3 gals. Mine got donated to me so it was a freebie but new they are 70$ or so... beats hauling gas on my trashed back and rib cage.

I spoke to Lindsay Pirie Thursday and he said the P3 plastic tank is dead. P3 and Hall's were within days of pulling the trigger using the company that does the Christini tanks. IMS told Jay Hall that they will build a tank in 6-8 months. Jay doesn't want to go up against IMS for such a small market. Your conversation with IMS could be confused by what they think the application is.... They may think of it as the '10 TC/TE/TXC tank, not the '09-'10 WR125 tank, although it's the same tank. Lindsay offered his "plug" to IMS and they said no thanks.

Lindsay also said he won't make anymore Carbon Fiber or Kevlar tanks in this design, as they are too labor intensive and he has to charge more than most will pay. I have tank #1 in Kevlar, Glenn Kearney has #2 in Carbon and Jay Hall bought #3 in Carbon. I'm glad I have mine.

:censored:...that sucks. That really sucks. And it pisses me off.

And, there was no confusion. I asked about both.
Zippo.

Ya know, there may not be 10 gajillion of these runnging around but jeez- IMS was offered a plug! :excuseme:

Man- it came this far, just to get shelved.

Whay have usa the small tank and europe has the big tank:confused:
The 2010 Wr125tank is 2,244 us gallon in europe.

Do you have a picture of the european tank to post?
Can we order the european tank in the US?
How much are they?

Bill's had a 2010 with the bigger tank. He drained it completely and took it to the pump and it took 2.3 gallons filled to the bottom of the threads on the cap. Price is ~$260. I don't know about current availability.

Any idea how far 2.3gals of gas is going to get me (if that tank is even available in the US)? What about the stock US tank (1.9gals). I'm a 190lb ex expert motocrosser turned A level enduro/hare scramble rider, so I'll definitely have it on the pipe though the woods. I'm seriously considering a WR144 for the 2010 season, but I don't want to be DNFing races because I ran out of gas in the middle of a section.

Jaked,

You are probably only going to get between 20-25 mpg. The 144 pulls really well on the bottom so you don't need to keep it pinned quite so much in the really tight stuff and that helps. I think all the 2010's come with the larger tank, but as Kelly said it still isn't large enough in my book. It should give you about 2 hours of race pace. Having IMS come out with an ~3.0 gallon tank is the best thing for what you want to do.

Put a Acerbis "lunch-box" auxillary tank on mine.

Holds well over 3 gals. now and the lunch-box drains first. Sure beats hauling it on my back.

So, on the low side I should be able to get about 35 miles out of a tank. That's not as bad as I had in mind. My father and fiancee chase me in the van at enduros, so I can get gas whenever I see them rather than waiting for a gas available. One of my enduro buddies (AA rider) is on a 2009 KTM 150sx, as far as I know he is running a stock tank (2.1 gals) and is not having any issues that I know of.

On the stock '09 tank I get 31 miles (50km on the little computer) and it's out w/ lots of long/short steep climbs, ST, DT and 30-35% 2 and 3 gear blasts WOT and a 470 mj between 2500-6000'.

YMMV!

I had my '10 TXC 250 bone dry last weekend and I swear when I filled it at the pump it stopped at 1.5 gallons. This was about 1/2 inch from the top. Even with the fuel pump in there I thought it would be a little more.

Same with my 2010 TXC. It's the fuel pump int he tank taking the extra .4

My 09 WR125 gets about 22 MPG in tighter single track slick stuff. 1-3 gear 80% of the time. I hauled half a gallon on my back this weekend and still needed to borrow a splash to get back tot he truck at 52 miles. Suxs. Fantastic bike with a peanut as a tank. That said i continue to be amazed at how good the WR125 is.

I would be willing to bet Husky or at a minimum Husky NA is working something on bigger tanks for USA market. Remember....we are a small portion of a Euro centric brand and FIM rules state offoad fuel avail is at 35 km's. (read as the probable reason for the smallish tanks) Many US enduros have fuel avail points at the same in addition to the refuel stops. Splash and go.
I notice many stating the inadequate range do not (unless they haven't stated...race at all or often) I know it stinks but work around the inconvenience until something comes about. The new 250 tank is same as the 125 and we are seeing many companys "Recognizing" the new 250 and I bet things will appear for sure.

I personally hope to see either a full factory 150 or a 310 on the new 250 for the future. This combined with a new open 4 stroke that will probably use the BMW 450 in a linkage husky frame would be cool too. Then the tough decision of what to buy is the dilemma.......Maybe pull a Kelly and buy 1 of each? Mr. Hardin is a racer and a dez guy so the big tank issues have most likeley been noticed by him and if anyobne can get it resolved for the USA riders. I would bet on him.

Joe
