  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TXC 450 First Ride ... Wow!

B Class
I just got back from my first break-in ride on my brand new TXC 450 and I must say I was really impressed. The riding position felt very Honda like, in other words perfect. The power, brakes, jetting and suspension felt pretty darn good and the only thing I might change is the stock pipe to maybe an FMF Q4. I like the power and sound of the stocker but with the insert in it rattles a lot. Anyone out there have any experience with the Q4 on the TXC and will it require re-jetting?
Thanks.

Bend the clip that holds the spark arrestor in a little and the rattle will go away.

Great bikes for sure. Miss my 08 when i go ride more open stuff...

Thanks for the tip, I really like the looks and sound (quiet) of the stocker and my experience with aftermarket exhausts is they're usually not worth it. After the bike is thoroughly broken-in do you suggest any changes in jetting other than for altitude?
Thanks again!

I ran the JD jetting kit in mine. Thought it was well worth it. Starts and runs better. Comes with charts for EZ change if you go somewhere with different altitude etc. It will run better and better with time. Suspension will also become more compliant. A great bike that gets better as you ride it.

You have the 2010 TXC 250? Re-jet it's fuel injected isn't it or did you mean to say re-map?

oops, yeah the JD needle will be REAL hard to install in that huh :D

BTW Congrats on your bike . I have the 09 TXC 510 and I think I will get the JD jet kit for it and give it a try. I agree on the Husky / Honda riding position but I feel the Husky's balance is a bit better for jumping and the throttle isn't an on/off button like my 07 450R was. Enjoy.

Thanks for the tips guys and as I get more familiar with the bike and it breaks in I'll probably get the JD kit, any sugestions concerning maintenance, oils, and troubleshooting will be greatly appreciated. I've owned dozens of dirt bikes over the years and this Husky is really impressive, after reading the Scott Summers article about this bike and coincidently a Husky Dealership opening just down the street I couldn't resist.

I run the Shell Rotella T 15w-40 in all my bikes. I change the oil and filter in my 4 stroke bikes after 2 or 3 rides depending on how many hours; usually 10 hrs. I keep an eye on the filter and always clean it durning the oil change unless it needs it sooner. Cool thing about the husky no tools required for the air filter check. I keep a spare oiled air filter in a plastic bag ready to go. If I had a Husky dealer near me I would be broke LOL. I agree the Husky's are impressive we now have three.

That's interesting about the Shell Rotella T as I've read that in other posts. Years ago I was delivering yachts all over the country and the Rotella T was the only oil we used in our Cumins powered Freightliner. George from Uptite swears by Golden Spectro.

Rekluse swears Rotella. I think the oil question is kinda like the truck question; which one do you like best? The main thing is change it often and I think any good oil will get the job done. It is funny though I run the same oil in my diesel trucks. Now they live a tough life and work for a living. One is going on 300K. I can say I have no problems with clutch slip, gear changes, nor have I ever had any engine failures. I run it in the following: 04 Aprilia RSV 1000 Factory, 07 Suzuki GRXR 1000, 09 Husky TXC 510, 08 Husky CR125, 2010 Husky TC 250, 05 Honda CRF50, 02 Kawasaki KX 65, and two diesel trucks. Other than the trucks I bet the Golden Spectro would work just as good. The difference is I can change my oil at least twice as often for the same cost using the Rotella.

Please tell us about the trials tyre you are using, why did you go that way, what are your thoughts etc.

That picture is from 08 when I owned that bike. I run Motoz exclusively on all my bikes now and LOVE them.
