  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TE250 starter issues...Any one else?

I'm still having the same starter problems too. I switched to a 5.0 battery and I replaced the ground wire with #6 wire thinking more juice might help. This has helped a little. But the starter gear gear issue makes sense to me now that I think about how the bike was behaving. I hope there is a service bulletin out soon to remedy this.

There is no TSB in NA yet. There is one in EU already. The factory is aware of the issue. It is only a certain run of bikes that are affected by the problem.

Too bad on this issue ... Where are this service bulletins published at?

My 08 TXC250 has 300+ hrs .... same battery, same starter .... Zero issues to date in this department ... Engine starts in < 2 secs on the starter or 1-2 kicks 98% of the time ....

It is not the same starter, the 2010 TE250 and 2010 TXC250 have a completely different starter setup.

Later,

Did you mean to say the 2008 and 2010 starters are different or is your statement correct about the 2010 TE's and TXCs starters were different?

The starters on the xlight motor are different motors and drive systems from the other 250, 310, 450, 510 old design motors.

Ok, had me worried for a moment. I thought you were implying that the x lite starters were different between the TXC and TE models. I thought maybe I had a different problem than what was being discussed here.

Over here in the UK my local Husqvarna shop (Dual Sport Motorcycles) rang me over six months ago to replace those starter ring gears!

My bike was bought in September last year...

Not sure what is going on with the TSBs, but there is really no excuse for delaying info with the net and computers today ....

I think the problem is that only a specific VIN sequence is POSSIBLY affected. The majority of the bikes were sold in the UK with a few shipped to NA.

That's just wonderful for us in NA who have early models. This is why I'm not rushing out to buy a new 310. I bought an early model 08 TE250 and an early model 2010 TXC250. The fixes for the early glitches are slow in coming, if at all. I'm tired of that BS. People that are first customers and early adopters should be taken care of better than this.

All under warranty on new model. God bless BMW/Husky and there 2 year warranty!

Starter ring replaced.
Exhaust camshaft replaced. I have no idea why?
Battery changed to Yusa. Old one worked fine at the time!
Petrol Pump. I had to ask for that when it started to be faulty at 1400 miles. Known problem.
EFI box replaced. What a difference that made to the power characteristics!
Bearing collapsed in head. The only ball bearings in the head! They are in the top cam chain gear/ sprocket. What a mess those little balls did to the engine!!!

That's all I think. If I remember anything else I will let you know
Just make sure you replace Engine oil and filter regularly. 900cc aint a lot and keep an eye on the top cam chain bearings. HeHe
No issues in last 700 miles...

Don't forget you only get 3 months limited warranty on a KTM EXC!
I also think BMW/ Husky are very quick at updating the parts list for parts with problems or issues...

Does anyone know exactly what parts to order to solve this ring gear issue? I see there are 3 gears but is there any bushings/Washers that need replaced?

100% agree with you Darkside. Why is it that customers in the U.S. have had to pool together to find out there is a problem and a known fix? Bottom line is I have blamed old management in charge for this. The ECU bog issue with the FI drove me nuts to try and find. Costing me a Leo ECU and silencer to prove a point, after being told by U.S. management several times there is "no ECU re-flash" on more than 1 occasion. We are going to have new management now and I hope they understand the damage this does to the brand. It is really simple, be honest and do your job. Saying all of that, my bike is perfect now and I am still drooling over the 310.

Tim. I will post the list on Monday of the parts I have replaced. My tech has been away for a few days and he has the list.

For me it was just the starter ring gear and the worm gear shaft.

Thank you. I may have to bite the bullet and take care of this myself.
