  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TE 510, this one's mine

I picked up my 2010 TE 510 from George at Up-Tite in September and have a bit over 400 miles on it now. George is all that he's reputed to be. At least I never found anyone with anything bad to say about him, and I sure as heck don't. I got my bike from him because of his reputation. My experience has only born out how he got it. His prep of the bike was outstanding. From minor stuff like cutting off the stud on the kickstand bolt to eliminate the autoretract "feature", to marking all the suspension settings, telling me how to do the 300 mile oil/filter change, and sending me home with the stuff to do it. etc, etc, etc

I'm really enjoying the bike and want to say "Thanks" to all here who've shared their experiences with their bikes. This purchase was a long time coming and reading the various threads here and elsewhere really helped me decide what to get.

So far I've ridden it about 2/3 pavement and 1/3 dirt. That will change once the 600 mile service is done and the power up etc have been completed. I'm hoping to have that done in a couple weeks.

I've ridden Nordhoff ridge a couple times and recommend it for an easy ride if you're in the area (Ojai, CA). You do have to be on a street legal motorcycle and get a free permit from the Ojai Ranger Station.

Anyway, here are a few pic's from bringing it home, to getting it dirty, and where the Nordhoff Ridge Rd is.

george is the freakin' KING of Huskytown- period. glad to see you give him the biz. his stuff's all over my TC. you can call him with a ? and guess what, he'll have the answer. you'll look long and hard to find anyone that has half the knowladge about anything that he does about hoosk's.

got yerself the queen of dualsports too. congrats and enjoy.

p/s- ya need to show me some quail spots up there, my TC has a plate.

Thanks

I took the bike down Monday for George to do the 20 hour/600 mile or so post breakin service and powerup, and picked it up today.

Life is much better now.

The engine was incredibly tight when brand new. After putting 15 hrs/510 miles on it the engine had loosened up considerably. I did the first oil/filter change at home and George did another one this week.

I also had him install the LED headlight he sells, and his exhaust can. I'm very happy with both.

This Sunday is gonna be a good day.

maybe Monday too

Mate, I love that bash plate, presumably an Uptite production. Cool looking bike.

Thanks, it is one of George's. I'll post some pic's after tomorrow's ride showing the new exhaust and headlight too.

Beautiful bike! Get an extra air filter or two from George so your 510 will always breath clean air. I use the Gunk/Liquid Wrench chain lube on all our bikes. My stock CZ chain is in great shape with over 4K on it. I wash/spray off the bike before every ride and then lube the chain. I tried all kinds of chain lube from the cycle shops and nothing is as clean as the G/LW. I find it at Harbor Freight. Give it a try. You don't want that beautiful bike looking all gummed up. Your going to love your 510.

Thanks, I really couldn't be happier with the bike. I'm trying a new-to-me chain lube from Dumonde. A bunch of my friends use it on the street and in the dirt, and are really happy with it. Since another friend sells the stuff . . . what the heck. so far so good

Life is much better after the breakin and powerup. Thanks, George :applause:

It's been overcast and as close to raining as it can get without calling it rain around here the last couple days. Today was no different. blah grey at home

So, imagine how glad I was to see this when I got to the end of Rose Valley near the campground. The clouds were seriously thick going up Hwy 33 and even down Rose Valley Rd., and then I just broke out into the sun. This is looking south from Rose Valley Rd. towards the campground and Nordhoff Ridge. Ojai is on the other side of the ridge.

Up on the ridge I'd ride in the sun, then in clouds so thick it was, again, like riding in the rain.

I had a late lunch on a sunny hilltop near Topa Topa, the stratified part in the picture.

This ride was one of those that reminded me why I ride, and how lucky I am.

a couple inaction videos i shot up there today

btw, I was really glad to have the brighter headlight today. Hwy 33 has been repaved but there are no lane lines painted just yet. There were a few times I swear vehicles coming the other way would've straightened out the corner right through me if it hadn't been for that light.
