  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 te 310

I'm looking at a '10 TE 310 and would like opinions on what needs to be done to it for dual sports and some Hare Scrambles in the Midwest.
Is the smallish tank sufficient for a 2-2.5 hs race?
What mods need to be done for competition?
I've heard of a Power Commander upgrade. What does it do?
Any opinions on the 50mm Twin Chamber Zokes that come on it?
Any input will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If new, if you do the PowerUp kit, your normal 6 month dual-sport warranty goes to the 30 day competition warranty, just so you know.

New or used? How many miles are on it? When is the manufacture date? If it has sat for a long period of time, there may be varnish buildup on the interior of the fuel pump, that has a pretty defined list of symptoms, the bike needs to be at operating temps to see the symptoms: poor running, running of of fuel, stopping when hot, then attempt to restart fails, etc..

I got my 2010 for Enduro's and general Woods riding. The Power Commander Upgrade, as you call it is merely using a PC V to amend the stock FI settings for better throttle response and performance. Stock, the mapping is set to a specific way so that the bike is compliant with all US req's for import. So most will want to get the bike dialed in for max performance prior to real use in the woods.

The Power Up is merely removing the O2 sensor and installing the plug and then plugging the supplied shunt plug in place in the harness. This causes the ECU to switch to a better map than stock, but not as good as you can get the FI system working, just better than stock. The other thing is to remove the Air intake restrictor. Technically, the dealer cannot remove the emissions stuff, but that needs to go too!

Before I picked it up, I talked to my dealer and had him do the power up, install the Husky Factory Race ECU for the 310 (PART #COD 8000H2002 for the 310 with the short Db killer) in place of the stock ECU, remove all of the other non essential stuff and tune the bike.

I picked it up and have been riding it like that since minute one. It rips. Runs strong, idles well and smooth. Comes off idle all the way up the rpm range smooth and linear. You'll hear other opinions about break in and not to power up till xx hours or so, your call. I chose to set my bike up from the get go and it is a sweet powerband with this ECU mapping.

I am getting a consistent 40-42 miles per gallon of normal, mid throttle trail riding. I really don't want to get a larger tank, I like the way the bike feels as is and 60-70 miles is plenty for me between gas stops.

I am not saying you won't have good success with a PCV. But that is not the only option for a better tuned FI system for the 310. I went the Factory route as they usually do a pretty good job with no "DOT/EPA" considerations regarding mapping and such. Plus it is all Husky parts on my bike. Anytime you add a non OEM "box" to a system, you have added additional places where you "could" have issues, so if you were to experience some issues up stream, don't for get those connections in the loom. You can always dis connect it and go back to stock if the PC did have an issue on a ride.

PC info for the 310 here

There is also the JD Jetting option. He also makes a box you run ontop of the stock ECU with the power up envoked. Good reports from that box also.

So, Factory ECU Race mod with Db killer (210 bucks), PC V with auto tune (369 bucks for the PC V and then 259 bucks for the auto tune sensor if you want that) or a JD Jetting box (210 bucks). You decide! Like I said, my pref is as close to stock as possible from a wiring perspective as long as I get good performance, and with the Husky Race ECU option, I am very happy.

You get more tuning capability with the PC V vs. the JD Jetting box, but you need a competent tuner and a Dyno if you don't run the auto tune option to maximize the mapping with the PC V. JD Jetting box is not as tunable but does have plenty of adjustment for most needs from what I have read. The Factory ECU is only as tunable as a stock bike via IBeat. So that is why the PC option costs more. Do you want the ability to modify and tweak above IBeat capabilities? then you might need the PC V option or a JD Jetting box if that meets your needs.

IRT the forks, I believe the zokes on the 2010 is a single chamber fork, not the twin chamber ones, but I like mine just fine so far. I am a B rider, so not really stressing the bike as hard as a A rider would.

it is a great bike. Runs good low/mid/high, chugs and revs out good. I am really liking this bike. I replaced a KTM 200XC with this bike and it is about the best 4 stroke small bore I think you can get that is "2 stroke like".

Thanks for the replies, it's a brand new bike with 0 miles.
I'm a +50 "A" rider that has ridden vintage bikes for the last 3 years.
I rode a dual sport last fall and am planning to do more of it this year, and I don't want to beat up my clean '90 XT 350 by "racing it" thru the woods at speed.
Does anyone have have a good option for a more comfortable seat? I'm spoiled with my '83-84 Husky seats. lol

Standing up or going fast takes my mind off the board of a seat Huskies have ... My seat is not much softer after 2 yrs of riding ....If this bike has the dual chamber forks, U'll need to bleed all the air out of the inner chambers ...

These Husky 4t machines are very cool for woods riding I think ... Durable and easy+safe to go fast on ...

I got a Dual Sport foam from Seat Concepts, ripped the cover and then got a custom cover made at GUTS for the seat, uber comfortable. But honestly, the seats on the 2010's are not that bad I think.

Mate the zokes on the 2010 310 are the twin chambers-they are a very effective trail fork and handle the demands of hare scrambles well as they were originally designed for the TC version of the bikes. As a weekend warrior I seldom put the zokes into their discomfort zone, however on the one or two scary moments I believe they are a touch better than my previous open chamber on the 450.

2010 te 310 is a good all around bike that is reliable, light weight and easy to work on.the forks on the bike are good and if you are picky can be made better.not sure about a 2.5 hour harescramble with out a gas stop tho.for sure not in bad traction conditions.40 mpg on a dualsport ride but that may be a stretch at race pace.the stock exhaust is loud.get the leo vince ti slip on and loose 4pounds and less noise.get a lithium battery and loose another 4 pounds.dan

where can u get the lithium battery from?I might go either the jd jetting kit for my 09 310 or the factory ecu as cost a lot less than pcv. thanks for help

Not sure where you are in Wisconsin ( I'm near green bay), but your welcome to test drive ( if we get a warm day) my 09 te310 to see if you like it. I have done pretty much all the mods found on CH. It is a nice bike that no other company makes. I like mine.
