  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 tc250 looses power and quits

Just wondering what is a sign of motor crank bearings going out. Bike ran great for 11/2 laps then it seem to loose power going through gears like as if motor was tightning up, I turn into pits and bike quit. Would start but seemed to quit while idleing . It seemed like it was kicking back way more than normal while kicking. The bike has been running great and starting great before this happen. Also did not burn oil and changed every 3 hours with syntheic. My gut feeling is crank bearings the motor seemed to be tighning up. Semmed like there is lots of compression. I will drain oil and look at plug and valves tommoro. Hope it is not to bad ,bike has 50 hours on it and about 30 would be motocoss I am c-b rider so not held at rev limter very often.

Check the rubber air boot between the carb and the cylinder. Mine cracked and the bike would run weird like you described.

I will check air boot. So far I have checked the valves and still perfect with lots of oil also I have changed spark plug. I drained fuel tank and carb and added fresh. Will put back together and see if starts. Next step will be drain oil and filter into paper towel and see if any metal filings come out which is my worse fear. I just changed oil 1 hour ago so it should look good.

Not looking good. Tried to start bike again and there was a drag while kicking bike even after tdc. Drained oil and not to bad but filter looked a little worse. Try to remove oil drain filter and would not come but after some help from wife with flashlight we got it out. The first big sign there might be a problem is when wife ask what was stuck in her finger like a sliver (metal filings). Drain filter had many small filings. Only put drain plug half way back in since it was getting tight with filings. Overall not very happy that this motor could not take more. I ride with 2 buddys thats have rode 2010 yz250f for 2 years with stock bottom ends with no problems with over 100 hours that ride way harder than me and use the same oil. My 2008 cr125 has been a great bike and why I bought the tc but for motocross I am not sure if the tc bottom ends can take it like the Jap bikes. I have had another riding buddy with 2011 ktm 250f have problems at 70-80 hours also who has switched to jap bike also. I might be over reacting right now and it is not that bad but filing can not be good.

I talked to Rob Lang a certfied husky mechanic and he thinks it might be a connecting rod bearing. This sound like it might not be uncommon problem in new x lite motors with over 60 hours hard use. I am going to rip motor out and ship to Rob and see what damage was done. I am really looking at going back to 2 strokes again.
