  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TC 450 jetting

Hi guys

Newbie on the block here.

I am the proud new owner of a s/hand 2010 TC 450 with 6 hrs on it.

I just wonder if you can help me out with the jetting.

The bike is stock standard with no mods.

It has a flat spot as you roll on the throttle when riding, I noticed when putting it away last night in the dark the headers glow red and the exhaust has burnt a small hole in the air box (dirty side of filter)

I talked to Stefan at R&D husky in Sydney and they said header glowing is normal and he has seen some bikes with burnt air boxes also.

I have had really good success on other bikes in the past with the JD jet kit but they don't make one for this model bike according to the company when I emailed them.

plug color is good and jets are not blocked.

Has anyone here used the 2005 - 2009 JD jetting kit in the 2010 model or have jetting suggestions to get rid of the flat spot.

Carburetor is a Keihin FCR-MX 41

Thanks

G'day Stumpy,

I had the same "flat spot" issue with my 2009 txc510 and got rid of it by changing the leak jet, pilot jet and installing an o-ring on the ap screw. I also installed the G2 Throttle with 400 cam to give more control from idle to half throttle. These changes combined got rid of the flat spot.

Have a read of this thread... Coffee posted a link to pretty much all you need to know about tuning the accelerator pump (AP) squirt.

Perhaps you could try just changing the leak jet (#35, 45, 55?), add the o-ring to AP screw and adjustable fuel screw... that would be pretty cheeep and you could get good results.

Also, the your bike has the same carb and jetting as the 08-09 so that JD kit will work.

Whatever you do, please come back and let us know how it went.

Hey Boogie

Thank you so much for the reply.

I will have a read of the thread and do as you suggest with the o-ring on the AP screw.

I have just picked up a flex jet mixture screw and will order a JD kit and post back with results once fitted.

Thanks again

Hey Boogie

The 501 had starter motor issues but a good engine when running. The old girl is down for a rebuild at the moment (longer term project) I had a 06 FE 550e up until last year it was a good bike and a great induction noise but the TC seems to handle a lot better and has a smoother power curve.

I love the euro bikes the first one I had was an old 97 Husky TE 410 to me it was like sitting in your old lounge chair at home and watching a good movie it just suited me. I guess that is why I have returned to see if the TC will feel the same.

I have just been to the shed and fitted the flex jet and did the AP mod. I found no cap on my adjustment screw and the gap was only around 2mm. Adjusted gap to 2.75mm and fitted o-ring. Put my head lamp on and went for a quick blat around the property after a warm up and found the flat spot gone. Headers have only a very small glow at the head but it seems to be running fine. Mixture screw is out 2 and a bit turns.

I will go for a good hours ride tomorrow out in the sticks and see how she goes.

Still want to order a JD kit and and give it a go also.
