  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

who would like to have a dual set up for there super moto. To have the option
to switch over to dirt and ride off road It's easier to go from dirt to SM, going
from SM to dirt is a little more effort but it is doable, not rocket science

I saw the woods chick post using the stock rear 4.25 rim with a knobby
and i like that a lot seems like i will just have to get a 21in for the front
Does any one know if the Te 450/510/610 front wheel will fit using my 320mm rotor

I think the SM rotors use different (larger) fixing bolts, but I'm not sure. If so then prolly the safest way to go would be lacing a 21" rim to a sumo hub - if the sumo and TE hubs are otherwise identical then you'd be able to use TE spokes too. Maybe someone else with experience of this can confirm (or tell me I'm talking drivel!).

You are right on with the SM rotor bolts the part numbers are different the SM are bigger
I don't think the hubs are the same the SM hub use 2 different spokes the left side and the right side
the TE use all the same spoke
Maybe new opportunities will present them selves
 
Here's what I've come across. (07 SMR, pretty sure models are similar from what I can see).
The hubs are different from dirt to street models in that model years. Don't even try to make one fit over the other - too much hassle. You could try to get a TE/TC front end and it would bolt right on, then you don't have to worry about damaging that 320mm disc.

That will be something to look at,but for the kind of off road ridden i will do
i don't think it will be a problem
The te/tc/txc has 11.81 inches of travel and the smr has 9.84 inches of travel
1.98 difference but the smr valving and spring is much stiffer
 
Update:
I changed over to single exhaust, Used a 2010 te mid pipe and a 2010
txc muffler and in stalled a rear rack
The 21in front wheel is on the way along with the rear 150/70/17 Karroo
next i will have to deal with the speedo and the kick stand.

What rack is that? Been looking for one like that.
 
Well... My 17" Mefo knobbies should arrive before weekend and was just thinking... can I use tubetype rear tire without tirelock? Not drilling any holes to my rim...

Is that Karoo tubeless?

Tuplavee I think the karoo is tubeless but i am not sure
but I have run 17 rear knobs on other dual sport bikes in some
pretty crazy stuff and never had any problems, i am not gonna drill
any holes in my rim ether besides I dont think that they even make a
rim lock for that wide of a wheel

Yep, got the tyres, front wont fit... Oddly 120/90-17 tire is even wider than 140/80-17 or maybe i dont understand something? :)

There's about 137mm clearance between forks and that 120/90 is ~140mm wide when not in rim...

Thought about putting only rear Mefo and keep the Dunlop Mutant at front but no... Those Mefos are reallyreally "tall", about same height when i put them next to my 3.75-19 sidecar bikes tire...

So still looking for front hub and get 19" rim laced to that... Or maybe i should just put my new Contiattack SM to rear and wait for next summer :banghead:
 
Tuplavee there is a guy on tt parting out a te has a front wheel
hub is good but the rim is bent might be a way to go for the front
Look in the classifieds it will be there
