  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 250 valve adjustment docs?

DougW

Hi
I was wondering if any one had any paper / pdf's of how to adjust the valves on the new 250 engines. I checked mine tonight and they are all tight and I didn't want to "dig" in to them until I had some "how to's".

FYI I have a TE250 if that makes a difference.

Thanks
Doug

Mine are a tad on the tight side on my TC 250 as well. I've been waiting for the workshop manual to show up before I "dig in".

What is spot on?

What are the specs?

looks easy enough to check...no cam chain to mess with!

Valves as per the specified gaps in the book. Was VERY EZ to check.

if i remember correctly it is .006i and .008e. my biggest concern was the torque for the cam holders.

Just got off the horn with Tasky's and discussed this very subject so..... Jeff says the new 250's have been within spec on checks so far. However, if an adjustment is required the cam(s) have to be lifted to change shims. It's all gearing at the valve cover level so no cam chain to deal with and he said the timing mark are very obvious and similar to previous versions. Mind you, I've not had my valve cover off yet, just prepping for the eventual check in a few weeks. Also, he was not sure yet if the shims are the same diameter as previous versions. We'll find out soon enough. I bet some the TC guys have insight on this.......

Manual specs: Inches .006 Intake
.008 Exhaust

Millimeters .10-.15 Intake
.20-.25 Exhaust

any idea what the torque specs are for the cam covers, the small socket head bolts?

On my Yamaha they were 5ftlb which is kinda light.
Overtighten them and you can bind the cam.

Maybe get a beam type torque wrench and see when they break loose?
