  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc 2009 WR300 cracked swingarm. What should I do?

Blew the shock seal on Labor Day. Shock is currently at suspension guru getting rebuilt. I'm cleaning up the swingarm for re-assembly and I find this. What should I do? Think it can be welded? Or do I need a new swingarm?

I would say "Yes" it is possible. How would I go about it?

If a new billet 6061 aluminum alloy bushing was turned on a lathe that would accept the swingarms drive side Torrington needle bearings. Maybe a bit thicker wall and a bit larger outside diameter for that side only this time. Then the cracked end bushing was carefully removed on a milling machine to fishmouth the end of the swingarm tube to accept the new end, welds cut back and if it was prepped for welding correctly. Then it was held down and realigned in a fixture properly with the pivot shaft all the way through for instance. (The jig or fixture could be made up in advance before cutting the swingarm up for the actual repair).

Yes it is repairable. It could be costly though and only one chance to get it right.

Meanwhile, I would be looking for a good used one to replace it with for a spare.

Is this common to the WR250 and WR300s?

Has anyone else seen this happen before?

What I'd really like to know, is what exactly caused this?

Isn't the listing for the earlier swingarm on ebay for a rightside drive chain and yours is a leftside drive? Or am I seeing this wrong. I'm not too familiar with the WR250s and 300s.

be careful of the year as linkage changes do affect the design
look for same or similar years

this happens fairly often on the 85-88 husqys..i have tig welded them and put them back into service. bike has been running a year without a crack. not an ideal solution tho. best to find a new one. i thought a dry bearing was what caused it but yours looks to have decent bearings
