  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone have a problem with their pipe on their 2009 wr125/144 rubbing on the rear shock and resting on the rad hose? Mine is doing both and causes the bike to sound like a raddling bag of nails do to the pipe rubbing on the shock and I hate it!. I've heard that the 2010 pipe and up has more of a bend around that area so it misses the shock.... is this true?

If anyone else has this problem I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of what you've done to fix it if you have any?

Bust out the hammer...

The pipe at the radiator hose is really easy to dent in to clear the hose. You can also go with the 2011+ radiators and hoses that move the bottom hose to the inside of the radiator. Here is how one of mine was fixed.

The stock pipe that came on the 2009's can be massaged to clear the shock res. Bills MC plus did this when mine was new. Some of the bikes came with an updated pipe that went under the shock res.

Later,

We've got an 09 wr 125 like that, the pipe has cut a groove about 1/8" deep into the shock res. Epoxied a peice of leather on as a buffer for now. That is with the fmf pipe.

same here... have a nice gouge in my shock res from every pipe that's been on the bike. kinda bugs me out actually, it's deep. my suspension guy didn't say anything about it though so guess it's fine (?) i'll hammer it in a little.

the 165 pipe hit my radiator hose pretty good also but that was a simple fix with a rubber mallet. you can see the indent i made to replicate the 144 pipe.

The fatty that came with my bike had worn a pretty deep gouge in the reservoir. The suspension guy who recharged my shock was concerned that it was deep enough that it would let loose but so far so good. The reservoir on the updated shocks is horizontal and points in towards the carb. The updated piece for the shock that re-orients the reservoir is available separately (8000 H3636) but it's expensive ($211.99 from Hall's).

Walt's modified ktm pipe for the 165 kit clears the reservoir and the rad without any issues on my bike.

We got better at that as we re-configured more pipes. Still have issues clearing the rad outlet as it is right where the pipe wants to be. I also switched my 09 to the later years/earlier years rads so it wouldn't be a problem. Makes getting the clearance kind of tough to gauge and unfortunately the first time you fall on that side the pipe will bend in and make contact. Husky was saving money that year and putting the same rad off the x-lites on the 125's.

I think I may invest in that updated piece for my bike just to make sure the pipe doesn't rub threw the reservoir that's on it right now.

No, i got the 165 kit with Walt's pipe and it fits without interfering.

But you would need to completely disassemble the shock in order to change out the top piece. If you've never serviced a shock before you might want to consider having a pro do it especially if you haven't had your shock serviced in a while.

I plan on getting my suspension done and if I do get the new res I'll get him to put in on for me. From 09-10 the only thing that changed on the two bikes was the rear shock reservoir yes? I don't want to buy it and find out that it won't work cause they changed the frames to make the 90 degree res work.

You should look at the parts fiches from both an verify that the top piece is the only thing that is different. I assumed all the other pieces were the same.

I will definitely look into that, I have a feeling that the bikes are the exact same except for the rear shock.

They changed the frame from 09 to 10, but as far as the shock goes nothing moved around other than the reservoir. It will work fine.

They changed the foot peg area and the head stays a bunch from 2009 to 2010.
