• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Our own Cafe Husky member MK is rider of record Number 349X! Go get em on the mighty 510, and bring her home to the checkers.

another cool note is that Brad "Wonka" Williscroft has come from down under to race Baja (KTM) with teammate Ben Grabham (Grabbo), I love those Oz nicknames. Glad to see the Finke specialists all the way up here to test the Baja dez. Also good news to see team Green back in Baja, the last time I was down to watch team green in the race was when Danny Hamel (RIP) was teammate to my amigo Davide Trolli. R

To all the riders, race hard to win, but be freakin' careful down there.

Baja 1000 Prerun

Just got back from prerunning my section of the 1000. Mikes Turn Off to Coast Highway (Just south of San Vicente).

Hey 349x guys...whoever is doing the Mikes Loop a couple watch out areas. The first 15 miles after Mikes Sky Ranch is rocks, rocks, rocks and more rocks :applause: No higher than 3rd gear, couple water crossings. About 10 miles from Rancho El Coyote, there is cattle in the middle of nowhere, after you climb out of the canyon after Mikes. Be carefull. Saw them on the hillsides during the day and then up on the road when I went by at night last night (real close).

A couple miles before Coyote Ranch, you hit a sandy straight....BE CAREFULL! There is a right hand drop across a wash. You can get up to 4th here and you will get hurt if your not paying attention.

Just before El Coyote, there is a LARGE rain rut across the road....the course detours around to left...Be very carefull...if you hit this washout at speed, you will DNF right there.

Simpons downhill is great....pick your way down, lots of left, right to clear the large rocks...but you can carry lots of speed down the hill. I found that staying mostly to right seemed the hot line.

Just after race mile 490, there is a concrete ditch that will pitch you if hit at speed...trust me I tried :lol:, then the infamous sharp left hand turn with the drop that gets a few people everyyear :lol:

Other than that, its typical Baja, sandy, silt, some new cut stuff after El Coyote, up, down, around, hard pack and rocks rocks rocks....

The best part is most teams will go through this area at night...speeds will drop drastically through here. Oh and it is dusty....If we get no raing before this mil...it will be crazy up there if racers get bunched up...the lingering dust that sits across the road Baja dust...

two military spot check points...one on the road up to mikes and one on the crossover road, between Valley T and the coast highway (closer to highway). Slow down, wave, they will wave you through on a bike, but are inspecting ALL 4 wheel vehicles.

Good luck to 349x Husky team...I will be on 302x

Mitch.

the summit is by all reports quite gnarley this year, going up and especially on the down hill side is like riding on big marbles (not good for braking), Be safe out there!! Side note JCR team is in Ensenada today for autograph meet the people day.

Found a site
http://www.bajaracingnews.com/

Live video feed from the finish line, map/location of vehicles - but based on the comments and questions the motorcycles may not be sending out location information. At least that is what it seems like based on a worried mothers question from BC Canada looking for information on her son riding #249.

Click on the Play button just below the map (need to scroll down some) - below bikini, below map, next to the "Terrible Hotel.Casino" ad.

#302 out - at least that is what someone put up at that prior link at 7:34 (20ish minutes ago).

The bikes will start to cross the finish line in the next few minutes.

1x first across, 12x seconds behind

It will be interesting how they are scored.

EDIT - why is it they keep saying how reliable the Hondas are  The subject was never asked, and the other riders never mention how reliable their bikes are.

This video stream seems to have stopped working for the time being:
http://www.trackinginternational.com/site/score/live-streaming/

However there are text updates here and TT.
http://www.bajaracingnews.com/

Interesting seeing the internet evolving as a news and information source regarding these live events. For $10 or $20k this could have been a *huge* opportunity to take things to the next level. Even a couple of radios and 1 more microphone would have made a huge difference. Don't get me wrong, Scotty B and Tracking international did a great job, but things may have been different if a sports network sent a pro team in and got ads from the internet, in addition to the TV coverage when they show it later. I mean their film crews are their anyway. The people that watch it on the internet will watch the TV coverage anyway cause they are 'enthusiasts'.

EDIT - video stream came back.

I'm not sure if anchor is first, last, or most miles. I'm not sure who rode when in any event.

Pretty interesting video feed. Something about having to stop at a stop sign in town or the police gives them a ticket? Not sure what that is about.

Shane just came in. I don't know the players, just what the guy said.

Hengeveld rode last for 1x, Norman for 12x. 12x had started 3 min. of so after 1x and finished 30 sec. behind, so they won on corrected time.

I cannot seem to find information about our people anywhere. If anyone finds information about 349x or 302x please let us know!

Nice photo of 349x  Anyone know what happened with the bike and/or how they finished? Results seem really hard to come by this year, for some reason.

I don't know if Hammer was on that team or not, but the guy in the photo is definitely not him.
