  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 2008 CR125 questions

Well I just put a deposit on a new 08 CR 125 and I will be picking it up wed. or thurs. so how should I break it in? I did try the search function but couldn't find anything. Thanks, John.

Break in

Im sure you'll get a few different opinions on how to break in your new CR 125, For some reason I feel like telling you how I would do it. First bring it up to operating temperture may-be once, then ride it like you stole it. Four Stroke operating temp twice, then race it. But I'm from the old school days, and still use Golden Spectro in my race bikes.

I moved your posts from the other thread because it seems a bit cleaner this way. Breaking in a CR125 seemed a bit out of place in the CR/WR125 comparison thread.

Feel free to change the title of this thread by editing your first posts title (edit->advanced).

Thanks Dean as long as I break it in properly I don't care what thread it's in. I think I am gonna have some fun after the break in.

Well now that was a good read. I am not sure how it works or is applied to the 2 strokes engines. Anybody else care to chime in? Thanks taskrider. Hey how do you like your CR 125?

yeah, i know it is mainly talking about 4 strokes, but still good food for thought. My 08 cr 125 compared to my 02 wr 125 feels totally different. We ride tight trials and i was worried that the cr would be hard with less bottom end/stiffer suspension....I was wrong. The 08 cr ROCKS! more power everywhere, and bone stock in some wet nasty riding weather it took me everywhere and was a total blast, and that was the break in ride.

As for break in... my dealer jetted it for me here is what he did

1. warmed it up to full operating temp, blipping the throttle while warming it up.

2. lightly putted around the parking lot, never aggressive.

3. brought in the shop changed plug, re-jetted, brought back up to operating temp

4. revved it out in neutral very high (rev limiter) and then went thru some gears in the parking lot (hard)

5. Told me go ride it as hard as you want!! its broken in (had break in fuel in it of course).

this is the procedure for every 2 stroke he sells and for about 10 years, said never had a problem. I was skeptical, got home pulled the
pipe and looked in the exhaust port, looked good. No problems yet.

NOTE: i bought my 02 wr from same dealer and he broke it in same way, after 1 year i did a top end, looked perfect, no scoring, scratching on the cylinder, i do use full synthetic spectro oil at 40:1, works perfect for me. just .02.

Thank you very much for your input I really appreciate it. I haven't been on a 2 stroke in years and never a new one. I think this Cr is going to be fun! It's just going to be a play bike for me so if it's quick/fast that will just be a bonus. It's hard for me to imagine a 125 with a lot of power. My son had one when he was 14 or 15. It was a Suzuki RM 125. I think it was a 1987 or so and it sure didn't have much in the power department. This little Husky sounds like it will be a blast. I will look around for the Spetro oil thanks again, John.

Get a couple EZ heat cycles in it and then ride it like you stole it.
Exactly what I did on our '09 CR 125! It has been flawless through many races ever since

Well even I can do that and at $2999.00 OTD I feel like I did steal it. Thanks guys. One more question on the oil. Which brands and what ratio on the break in. So far Spectro syn has been suggested.

I run the Amsoil in my chain saws, weed-eater, pipe saw, back pack blower, and trimmer and knock on wood have never had a failure on any. Hey the stand works like a champ on the 09 TXC 510 any update on the tires?

It there any other name or info on the Motorex oil or do they just make one for mixing?
Motorex Cross Power 2T fully synthetic is the one. I mix it at 60 to 1 in everything.
