  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

2007 TE450 Signal Light Install Question

Hi guys - I have done a bunch of searches and came up blank; if this has been answered in a post somewhere I apologize.

I have a pretty much bone stock 2007 TE450 - it came with headlight/taillight from the factory, but no signal lights although it DOES have signal light controls on the handlebar (to turn the signals on or off).

When I ordered my handguard's with built-in led signals, the guy I spoke to didn't think I'd need anything else for my bike to get it working but after playing around a bit last night I couldn't seem to get them to work.

Here is a picture of the wires coming out behind my headlight - can someone please help explain which wires does what? I tried looking at the shop manual for my bike but the wiring diagrams are so confusing I can't seem to make head or tails of them:

The black and red wires at the top are coming from one of my hand-guard turn signals - but can someone please help explain what all the other disconnected wires are? As you can see by the above picture, there are two pairs of wires - one pair has a blue wire and a red/black wire, the other pair has a light green wire and a blue wire. There is also a plug (with blue/orange wires) that seems to be capped off, as well as another plug.

Am I missing a relay? I thought they were supposed to be behind the headlight, but maybe it's hidden away somewhere else? Again the guy I bought this kit from seemed to think my bike already had everything it needed (except the actual blinkers).

Again, any help greatly appreciated!

Well, as an update to this thread for those who may have similar questions, it turns out I was indeed missing the relay flasher. After reading a bunch of forum posts and technical specs I thought all I needed was any 2 prong flasher not influenced by load (since I have LED flashers), and many people recommended the Tridon / Novita HD12. I checked the website, and it said:

  • Not polarity sensitive - can be used on positive and negative ground vehicles.
  • Suitable for flasher & hazard light applications.
  • Flash rate is not influenced by load variation.

So I picked one up, installed it, but NO FLASHING. I really don't think it was flashing so fast it appeared to be always on, there was no flickering at all. Just solid light with no flashing. Since this was supposed to be one that didn't rely on load variation, I thought maybe I just had a bad unit (especially since others claimed it worked great for them). I bought another one and the exact same thing happened.

I thought I would try one more unit out of curiosity, and picked up the EP34 that specifically said it worked on LED lights, and BINGO... worked perfectly! I still have no idea why the HD12 wouldn't work for me, but I'm leaving well enough alone and sticking with the EP34.

Here is the wire mapping instructions I found posted in another forum, along with a picture of how I temporarily wired up the EP 34 to get it working:

Red/Black ---> Right Hand Blinker (+)
Blue --------> Ground (-)
