2007 TE 450 oil weeping from small hole?

Hey guys,

Have purchased a used bike and brought it home last weekend. This thing appears to be starting and running like a top...have noticed after running there is a trickle of clear/clean oil coming out of a small hole in the cylinder head? Forgive me if I misname parts....learning as we go here..is this normal? Thanks in advance

i have a 2004. it leaks from pretty much everywhere lol. i havent noriced that hole on mine but will have a look in the morning.

Normal, that should weep water, It is the drain for the spark plug cavity.

Not normal to have oil from that hole, as Motosportz said, it is the drain hole for the area around the base of the spark plug and there is no source of oil around that area, there could be some oil leaking out of the rocker box cover and dripping down into the spark plug area and then out that hole..

Thanks for the advice guys. As this is a used bike, I'm uber sensitive to anything remotely unusual. As I have yet to get my M1 and insure the bike for road AND the fact that it is winter here, I have resorted to reading the owners manual repeatedly and doing as much as I can to ensure it is prepped and ready for beginning of season. Will look closer at the "substance" coming out of this and check the spark plug at the base for oil How many more weeks till SPRING?????????????????********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

another thing learnt today.

Before you take out the spark plug give it a good blow out via the vent hole.
I always spray a snidge of WD 40 there after a wash.
Maybe your spark plug is night at the correct tightness.

ah HA..found the culprit. Just a worn seal that is causing some weeping of oil behind the spark plug cap...dribbling down to the spark plug drain...looks like I'll watch Coffee's vid on removing the valve cover and install another seal that the seller graciously handed to me along with a lot of other essentials

Yup. As I had thought gasket was torn. Now leak free. Also changed the air filter and found that this is not the easiest thing to do Just waiting for my DRIVEN gear shift to come in and then I should probably change out the oil for winter storage I'm having so much fun with this bike and I haven't even really RIDDEN IT YET****************************************!

Hehehe...only riding I've done is a few quick rips around the subdivision as I have yet to get my M1 license (will do in March) and insure this for street/trail. Not a lot of guys riding up in this neck of the woods this time of year...although there has been a strong ice racing scene but weather hasn't been too cooperative for this either!! This bike is also equipped with a Rekluse....the best way to describe this experience so far....feels like I'm cheating...The settings on this Rekluse also remind me this bike is truly an OFFROAD rig first and foremost hahahaha.
