  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

looking for a bit more power in the 125. im practising with way more experienced riders now and theyre all on 300's,i can keep up but i want more go. i was told adjusting the power valve would make a difference? is this true and does anyone have a guide or diagrams on how to do it? iv a 2 day event this weekend too and wouldnt mind a bit more power fr that

thanks

The power valve adjustment you are referring to wont give you more power, it simply changes when the valves start to open or controls their opening better, which can smooth the power in the midrange or reduce the hit into the top end. If your on the pipe constantly, for example riding open mx tracks, you won't feel a lot of change. However, if your riding lots of tight single trail the change is quite noticeable.
This is all based on the assumption your mechanicals are in good condition, if not a freshen up might be just what the doctor ordered.
You could also look into a carb swap, a Keihin PWK or a Lectron are popular. Again not more power but better power.
You'll find many posts and threads on this site re all the above.
For MORE power a bigger displacement is the most efficient solution.
My thinking is if your keeping up with your mates spend the dollars on some advanced riding tuition and really kick their egos lol.

Lectron add a little bit of power yet the biggest gains are made in consistence in performance of the carb in a changing environment and a smoother response on you throttle movement.

you can consider a cr ignition that would add a few ponies but there is no real substitute for more CC's

165 is nice

just to approach it from another direction.

everybody is normally looking to get more out of the engine to go faster but in a lot of cases you can get more speed by addressing the suspension set up.

theres hardly a guide for the power valve setup? i ride enduro, single trail and hare and hound . suspension is where i want it,nice and soft like a trials bike for the forest/rocks / roots. im determind to not gor bigger bore unless something happens to the cylinder but i have thought about the cr cdi for a different ignition curve. would the power valve setup bring the power in at a lower rev? sometimes it canbe annoying not getting out of the bends unless your reving her coming into the bend and blipping it through the bend

Thats the nature of a 125 you gotta stir the gear box constantly.
Get a turbo for it, yup the powervalve should open up the hit a little earlyer or smooth out the hit but it wont increase hp, different exhaust options too like a tuned expansion chamber and shorty stinger work well, others will have the knowledge on these upgrades me ive got a gnarly a lectron and a 360 so i dont want for power, would love too try a cr ignition on my beast but tbh its plenty a handful as is.
