    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hello all, long time no post. Hope all are well and weathering out the storms of life.

Need to replace the original battery in my 2006 TE-250. There appears to be alot of new innovation in battery technology. What do you all suggest. Price is a concern. Is there anything better/as good as the Turn Tech product? If Turntech is the answer which one should I get. The 2.5 is very appealing due to size/weight. What does the collective brain trust recommend?

I now own 2 Shorai batteries and like them a lot. I purchased the 14 amp battery for the TXC 250 and have been very happy with it and just bought a 9 amp battery for the TXC 450 (which occasionally runs lights and a GPS) and am curious as to how it will perform. We'll be installing it and trying it out this weekend. The 14 amp battery is a tad heavier (though I SERIOUSLY doubt that I could tell the difference when riding), but since the 250 won't kick without juice for the fuel pump, I didn't want to take a chance. Even before I replaced the starter on the 250, the Shorai seemed to give it a slightly better bump and it would start more often with the e-starter than with the standard battery. BRPMoto sells the battery in both sizes and offers a Cafe Husky discount and free shipping over $100. :thumbsup:

There's a whole thread about batteries on here somewhere. It seems to be one of those debates like which oil or whether to use race gas or not. The main reason I purchased Shorai over the others is because they were slightly cheaper than other lithium options and seemed to get great reviews from other bikers. After receiving both batteries, here are some additional things I liked about it:

  • Its shaped like a regular battery...90 degree edges, etc...so it fits nicely in the battery slot.
  • The posts are solid.
  • It comes with a pile of foam pads (with a sticky side) to help secure the battery in your battery tray.
  • The nuts that are in the posts have little foam bits on the back to make it easier to grab the nut with the bolt...maybe not a new concept...but the first time I have seen it and its very helpful!

I have been good about keeping my OEM battery fresh on the trickle charger, but just recently serviced the air filter and noticed that the battery is developing some serious/deep wear grooves where it rubs the black cradle, I will probably need to replace it soon and will go with a lithium
 
After the stock Yuasa battery started to weaken, I purchased a Parts Unlimited battery from the local shop. SAVE YOUR $$$, the Parts battery is slightly too large to fit in the cradle. The seat will wear grooves in the battery. $80 in the toilet after a few months. I then purchased a 14amp Shorai battery and I'm happy with my purchase. So far this battery has over 8 months of constant use. The bike has never had any slow strain while starting. I have a GPS and a helmet light connected with no problems at all. The Shorai fits into the cradle and I use one piece of foam on top of the posts. Killer battery, but made in China.
 
+1 on the Shorai LFX14A1-BS12 battery, highly recommend it. I have a few extra new in boxes sitting on my shelf for anyone in dire need of one. Contact me direct.
