  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Just picked up a 2004 wr250 and a bag of riding gear for $1,400.
Is this about what these bikes go for. The guy I bought it from
use to race it in hare scramble and enduro. He quit racing years ago and said he
put a new top end in it after his last season. It has not had much use in the last 3 or 4 years.
I have not had a bike since I was about 18 and i am 49 now. I would like to run a hare scamble or a enduro at some point. I Know I will need a lot of seat time before I enter a race. I have beed riding snowmobiles for 25 years so I do have some experience with a high hp machine. Everything that I have read about this bike has been positive. I would like to here from people who own or have owned this bike around here everyone has a KTM or Yamaha do nt see many husqvarna's.

First off, you got a great deal on the bike in my opinion (below market value for Atlanta at least). Your story is very similar to a lot of guys on this site. We rode as kids and teens then College, Work, Life and Kids all took priority over riding. As for the bike, the 'WR' will do just about anything you need it to do. They are easy to work on and finding parts isn't a problem. When you get stuck or have questions, just post and the CH group will respond. Congrats on the new bike! - John Hunter (Atlanta).
 
Thanks Guys! I got a chance to go out and ride last weekend because we have no snow in minnesota right now. It runs really good.

Nice bike. I'm a fairly new 06 owner myself and have been having a blast with the WR. It is destined to be my race bike this next season.

Hmmm...I've got @ 80 mostly WFO hours on mine (2nd owner @ 90 hrs total). The only thing that fell off was an exhaust mount bolt, the only part that's been a problem is the rubber manifold boot.
Of course, chain and sprockets, tires and brake pads wear out regularly, but otherwise mine has been surprisingly trouble-free. And now I need rings and a clutch pack, but that's to be expected too.

I disagree with gwynfryn. My '08 has been bulletproof. Way over 100 hours and still running the stock piston. Just FYI, I had to do tons of stuff to my last 2 KTM200's that were beyond the regular wear items - Just Saying.
 
I would say these bikes - especially from 2002-2006 are the best bikes they ever build.
the engines are reliable, bodywork and plastics are good quality, brakes etc are good, parts availability is great around here.
Maybe there are faster bikes out there- but i would say this one is the most reliable (once dialed in properly) you can get.
 
Just to give you some comparison my 99 wr 250 is on its second complete motor rebuild and that is only because of a main bearing failure.
with good maintenance this bikes are as tough as nails i love mine. I've just had the mostly normal wear items like any other bike. Parts have not been a problem and there are other parts that will cross over, which i have put in the sticky at the top of the forum and there is also a lot more information there and is worth a read.
 
Great deal on a great bike. If you want to ride hare scrambles my advice is make sure the bike has springs in it for your weight and the sag is set properly. Practice riding standing up as much as possible and try to keep your feet on the pegs as much as possible. Don't worry about speed in the beginning, once you get comfortable and confident and in good enough riding shape to ride aggressive for an hour then enter a race. You will meet great people and find riding buddies that will help you get better. You have enough bike to compete in about any class and you can refine your set up as you learn.

I got my 2006 WR250 last july, I'm 48 and used to have bikes when I was a kid, but it is a different world now... every time I fall, I feel it, but it is way too much fun to stop.
My WR250 is awesome, love it, and the top end is easy to check. Just get a compression gauge (between 20 and 30 bucks) and use it. My top end has about 50 hrs and still measures around 205 psi. Top end needs work when you see a drop of about 10% on your measured pressures. I hope this helps, and that price was just right, even if you have to refresh the top end.
