  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2004 TE450 service schedule

Richard Young

Husqvarna
My Son is considering buying a 2004 TE450, he is aware that the service schedule is more intensive than a pure road bike but its not clear how intensive.

I have done a search but cannot find this info. He intends to do at least most of the servicing work himself.

Any information gratefully received.

How often should it be serviced and what is required at each service?

What oil should be used on this engine?

Somebody on the Husky Cafe must know this info or where we can find it.

He is going to use it for Green Laning fun not competition use.

Are we talking about just oil & filter changes at about 500 miles, plus valve clearances every third oil change? I have seen people on here use synthetic oil others use mineral oil.

Here's a link to the 04 owners manual in pdf form:

http://www.4shared.com/document/8s6h4Pdw/husqvarna_TE-TC250-400-450-200.html

Click the link and hit the "download now" button. There'll be a countdown timer 'cos it's a free filesharing account. The manual is a pretty big read, but all the information is there. The fact is that apart from those regular oil changes and occasional tappet checks (which are both pretty easy on the TE) looking after it is the same as for any other dirtbike.

As for the oil: if you asked 10 people you'd probably get 11 answers! The manual says 10w60 synthetic. I use 10w60 Millers in the summer and 10w50 Motorex in the winter, both are fully synthetic, which imo is the important bit.

Thanks thats exactly the sort of thing I was after, apart from an engine rebuild every 80 hours or something theres nothing to scary. Would everybody agree that (bearing in mind this is out of warranty) for social green laning rather than any competition use, that as Husky quote 40h MX and 80h for Enduro, that we could probably expand that rebuild schedule out to 160 hours use? which we would estimate as every 2 years for his usage.
