  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2004 TC450 manageable power?

Husqvarna
I am looking @ a 2004 TC450 for sale. I'd like to use as a trail bike. Last 4 stroke I rode was a Yamaha 250F. I rode a CRF450R and thought the power was not too friendly. How's the power like on the 04' TC 450? Thanks.

I have an 04 TC450 that I use for trail riding. I like the power delivery on it, it doesnt have a big "hit" like the Hondas or Kawasakis. Once you sort the jetting and set up the ergos to your liking its a great bike. My only complaint is the weight of the bike. Mine does feel a bit heavy. If I'm riding in the really tight single-track, I get beat up really quickly (but I am 53 yrs old), dont like bulldoging the thing for long. I have no regrets buying it. What type of trail riding do you plan to do (single-track, cow-trails, desert etc..) ?

OHV parks - Hollister & Carnagie. My 250F was fine but I need a green sticker bike. I looked @ the TC450 but it had a massive bog when the throttle was cracked. I doubt this condition was normal. If running correctly my primary concern was too much power and possibly the weight especially when compared to my YZ.

Can you register a TC in the States. Thought it had to be a TE.
Apparently Steahly make a flywheel weight that goes on the stator and it will give a more torquey performance more suited to trails. They have several weight options. I think this will make it a better trail bike.

I ride mostly at Hollister and Metcalf Rd. The TC 450 can get you anywhere you want to go at any of the OHV parks in N Ca. The "bog" is most likely the jetting, mine came from the factory with the Mikuni TMX carb jetted too lean, it would flame out often. Once I got the right pilot, the needle ,and the accelerator pump sorted it ran fine. Eventually I ended up with a Kehein FCR only because Kelly here on Cafe Husky had an extra one that I traded with him. To be honest, the FCR didnt make any difference really because I had spent hours sorting out the Mikuni. Once I had it dialed in, I should have just left it alone. But the FCR does work good and there are more parts readily available for it.
The only trails that I don't like to ride it on at Hollister is the Troll trail at certain times (when there are axle-deep whoops on it), I get too tired out then because of them. I'm sure the Husky will feel heavy comparing it to a 250 yzf.
As far as power delivery, I find it very trail friendly, almost a linear, electric kind of power band. The 04 TC450 is a green sticker bike, and it does have a 19 inch rear wheel. Mine does not have the optional kickstarter.
Overall, I have no regrets buying this bike. I've had it for about 9 years without any major failures. I did have a valve job at about the 6 year, which is to be expected probably from any high performance 4-stroke. Right now I'm having trouble with the "auto decompressor device". Which is apparently a hard to find part (I cant locate one right now) that will have to be back ordered.

GHTE, the 04 TC450 are registered here in the states and even here in Kalifornia they are a green sticker bike which means they can be ridden year-around as opposed to the red sticker bikes which are limited to the winter months ( i think Oct- May) except on certain closed circuit courses or private property.
Hope this helps
Jerry
