  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi All
I have re-entered the world of Husky and bought a 410 in SM trim as a little run-around. All seems ok, low mileage well looked after etc etc. Recently had fork seals done and shock re-build along with stator re-wind.
Had a little test ride up the road and went well, gearbox seems perfect. Got it home in back of van and had it ticking over in garage whilst I checked it over.
There is one little niggle I have but not sure if I am imagining it and some comments would be appreciated. When ticking over I thought I heard a sort of clicking but only intermitment from the left side. I am thinking can chain or something but as I say bike seems to run fine. I am hoping it's nothing serious but as I have yet to get hold of a workshop manual I am not sure how to check this sort of thing.

Thanks, I'll take a pic now but can tell you it's got two hex bolts top and bottom with what looks like a black plastic cap in the middle with phillips screwdriver fitment

Sounds like it might be a manual adjuster but don't hold me to that, the Philips in the middle is different from the later models automatic adjuster with a 10mm hex in the middle and a spring underneath, that continually presses the adjuster rod into the cam chain tensioner bar..

here you go....got it out

Someone kinly sent me link to workshop manual but unless I am missing something I can't see anywhere telling you how to check chain tension and adjuster!
I assumed the screwdriver fitment is to extend the arm resulting in more tension as chain wears but I can get the thing to turn!!

Measure the distance from the flat side that butts up to the head, out to the tip of the little rod.
Next, stick a Phillips in the hole in the head and gently press the cam chain adjuster bar into the slack cam chain, and when it stops, mark the screwdriver with your thumbnail, or with a Sharpie. Measure that distance and compare it to the length of the little adjuster distance, are the 2 measurements the same?

Ah ok got it, thanks. So if the measurment is different (eg less in length on the tensioner) the tensionser needs to increase in length to get some more chain tension. All makes sense now. I guess that when you have extended the tensioner to the max it's new chain time
