• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2 pac paint code?

AA Class
Ok, the red for my tank is no problem, the newsletter says it's a BMW colour which can be found in a 2 pack catalogue, the white pin is just white, the engine is just satin black, all easy.

But, the silver is a chrysler colour according to the newsletter and it's an acrylic code which i can't convert to a 2 pack formula because no one in australia recognises the chrysler code here, does anyone have a 2 pack paint code for the silver that's true to the original colour?

cheers
Paul.

The DuPont pigment info is included in that newsletter article. Any savvy paint shop should be able to mix according to that

i've tried two different places, a paint supply house and a paint shop. both say they can't convert an acrylic code to a 2-pack one, and the code itself is for an american spec chrysler which isn't on the system in australia so they can't look it up by the code either.
The BMW red is easy as it's been imported here so it's on the local system, apparently.

I know a guy who has a couple of bikes and i'll be talking to him at the state titles this weekend, hopefully one of his has original paint i can scan to get the correct colour, will know more by monday i guess

yeah, there's plenty of silver to choose from, my problem is the PO had repainted it with aerosols and i'm very sure it's nowhere near original (it's silver hammertone ferchrissakes!)but i'm not sure what the original silver is to compare and choose "something close", i just don't have a point of reference.

Anything in original condition would likely be too faded to accurate. Rustoleum Appliance Silver Epoxy is close and if you can not buy it in Australia, you can order it from amazon.com.

As long as you do not resort to powdercoat, it can always be set back to original once you find the true color

i've got an air cleaner assembly off a 125 on loan that's original, the 125 sticker is a bit yellow but the paint looks pretty good, rub marks from riding on the top edge but there's good finish on the inside edge i think i can use for comparison. i'll see what the painter says

umm, thanks mate, i read it ok the first time, my eyesight is fine you know.

those codes are the same ones i reference in my post #3 from the husky newsletter, i've already tried to use them with no luck.
Thanks anyway though

The DuPont pigments set the color only, not the compound of the paint. Color is color, regardless of the paint system.

By the way, what system is 2 pac? If it is nitrocellulose lacquer, I would not bother in this day and age. I would use acrylic urethane or epoxy would be better on a frame. More durable unless you are building a museum piece.

it's glasurit, and i'm not a painter, i'm only repeating what the two places i've been to have told me. i don't see any reason for them to make it more difficult than it needs to be, the BMW red is on their system and i can get that in anything i want, their explanation is that BMW imported that vehicle into australia so the paint manufacturers have to be able to supply the colour for repair. The chrysler colour isn't recognised here so there's no 2 pack formula, the paint supplier can mix the acrylic formula from the newsletter but my painter is set up for 2 pack, not that it matters now as i have been loaned an airbox with the original colour on it for matching.

I am glad you found something to match to. As I will be painting a few frames silver within the month I would be willing to shoot a sample patch and ship it to you so you would have a true sample to match.

That's nice of you jim, thanks. I think i'll be ok with my air cleaner sample, the painter reckons if he can't get the computer scan to do it he can do it by eye so i'm pretty right.
