  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc 1998 Cr 125 lacking of power

Hi from the UK:)

I'm relatively new to Huskys & Café Husky, but have been lurking here for a little while.

I have a 2004 CR125 which I have owned for a few months and absolutely rips:love: , I recently bought a 1998 CR125 very cheap as project to tidy up and get a friend started.

The 98 was a bit of an old dog but has now had a general tidy up, piston ring, power valve clean, oil, air filter, spark plug etc still a few things to do but mechanically seems OK. The problem is we took it out for the 1st ride at the weekend and it just doesn't feel right? Really lacking power? I mean the 2004 absolutely leaves it for dust.

Sounds crisp and smooth when revved at a stand still, just seems to be missing power on trail.

I'm wondering if it could be a power valve or a carb/jetting issue? Anyway I though it was time to ask the experts!

What's the first things I should be checking? Any help greatly appreciated.

What gearing are you running? Are the brakes free my rear caliper was siezed and i didnt notice untill i realised my pads were toast freed it all up an robberts your mothers brother.

Where you in uk in gloucester if your local i can have a look if your still stumped.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

After much discussion at work today and wondering if it was as simple as him forgetting to turn of the choke off! We have just had another look (it wasn't the choke) and ended up stripping & cleaning the carb, with no obvious issues.

Checked over the power valve linkage and all looked OK.
Then decided to strip the power valve governor assembly, glad I did as it looks like the teeth are stripped from the gear on the assembly.

I will give Husky Sport a call tomorrow a get a price, a quick look at the parts list shows that I will have to buy the complete assembly, probably at great expense!

so a few questions:

1, My guess is it has been like it for time (could have been years) and the previous was riding it. Am I going to have to split the case:confused: to remove any debris?

2, Does anyone have a spare gear, or assembly they would be happy to sell?

3, Are other years compatible? The cross reference spread sheet shows 98=8000 83096, 99-01=8000 90340, 02-12=800099753. Given the engines seem to be pretty much identical I'd guess that the later years should fit, maybe just superseded part numbers??

Thanks again!

Any 98 and later governor will work. I think there are a couple on e-bay right now. If you don't have any luck there, I will send you one of my spares.

How little debris is in the oil or around the area that you removed the governor from?
There was a 125 in bits in manchester for sale not long ago keep checking ebay for husqvarna projects an see if you can get entire spare bike for 300 odd.
Good job on finding the culprit.

@juicypips - Couldn't see any debris in there, and I have already done an oil change a week or so ago, old oil didn't look great but no signs of debris.
I have messaged a couple of guys on ebay who are breaking whole bikes, fingers crossed.

I almost bought a complete 99 real cheap a few weeks back but just couldn't justify the 3hr journey each way.

@wallybean - Many thanks, I have seen, and am watching the two on ebay, both in the States though. Was hoping to have it running this week but looks like I may just have to wait on shipping from States.

Many thanks! Great forum, great support!

Well it looks like you dont need to split the cases as if nothings come out and no graunchy bits then it must of been pounded into submission.
Good luck with the govenor hunt.

Governor ordered from ebay £36, now just have to wait for shipping from the states:rolleyes:.
Husky dealer quoted me £240 list price! Then offered it at £140:eek:
