  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

had to give my son my wr/cr 144 but have the opportunity to pick up a cr125 1995 model, this would be a total rebuild and hopefully a 165 kitted engine.
the frame looks to be same as upto 2008/9 but the expansion chamber runs on the gear shift side, my question is ..are there any engine differences between this and a 2001 model and is the gearbox different, any issues with fitting a 165 kit.to something this old are the internals interchangeable with more recent models, thanks guys.

ok done a quick search and now know that it would be unfeasible due to power valve set up on the older engine that changed in 97, i searched and found ausky's thread on same bike , so i will keep searching.

Hi Jo
I did up a 1995 in WR form a few years back. The frame is different to the later models, I tried to drop a 2000 Cr engine into it and the power valve cover hits the frame. These bike were notoriously hungry on conrods and they are nearly impossible to find. None in Oz or the USA Europe is your best bet if you can still get them. Plastics are also hard to get but up to 1999 125/250/360 will fit. The only aftermarket exhausts available are from Dynoport and I had no luck with them but picked one up from eBay USA and the only one I have ever seen in the last four years.
Unfortunately they can't be bored out to a 165 because the powervalve is quite different and is a rotary style not a knife edge like the 1998 and later models. Sorry for the bad news mate.
Some good news is that they have a true wide ratio gearbox in them that is interchangeable with the later models. Wossner still makes pistons for them and the front suspension with triple trees is interchangeable up to the current models. The rear shock is interchangeable up to 2004.
I hope this helps you mate.

thanks mate, looks like a later model would be the go 97-2006 i prefer the look of the pre 2007 models.

1997 models had the same engine to.
A 98 or later model would be a better option mate.
