  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

tack the corners up where you want the part to be, then weld in one pass. stopping and starting leads to weaker welds. pulling the weld has less penetration while pushing is a bit more. duty cycle is overlooked sometimes as well, often the welder needs to sit for a minute.

have you ever practiced with basic fillet or butt joint, welding then cutting apart to check penetration?

Years ago in school, and no, didn't lay it on its side. That would have been easier, but I didn't really want to wrestle a bike with no swing arm onto the ground. Well, I guess it would have been easy to put it on the ground. Picking it up would have been tricky.

All good tips too, but a bit late now on these runs!

Or not too late! You all shamed me into dragging my butt back to the garage, grinding off the old welds, and rewelding. I couldn't do a continuous bead simply because I couldn't see where I was going.

Also, justintendo, I laid it on the floor to weld this time. :)

For what it is worth:

Those would of held, your penetration looked ok but I feel your wire may have slight rust spots on it or your wire feed is not tight enough to give consistent weld.

Lol I would of tacked top n bottom all four sides left the thing standing an done em hard n fast.
Am good at vertical welds, upside down not so much.

the key to overhead is making sure you push. good penetration and doesnt give the puddle a chance to sag or fall....hard and fast too!

Not the best I've done got the line caught on the transition from pulling to pushing the weld, is 15 inches long.

Just to show that I can weld and I don't just Google everything .. honest lol.

Btw that's an axel cut out on a +4 trunnion tube Morgan chassis leg I'm fabricating.

Back to the 360 upgrade thread.

With most of my stuff showing up tomorrow, I'm hoping to have everything done before Christmas. My 3 plastics showed up today, and the shop incorrectly cancelled my order for the left shroud. I'll reorder, but that won't be here in time for the trip so I ordered a pair from UFO for now.

Tank looks to be in a pretty good spot just resting on backbone at the rear without a rubber (for now) and on my homemade mount from the other day up front.

Looks good, you will need a rubber before you ride tho as I had an image tank that chaffed on a weld on the frame it was a good 3mm deep but the tank was well think. Just a warning to you.

Yes, fully intend to add a rubber before riding. Thanks for the heads up though!

Now it is looking like It will be a bit after Christmas. Maybe before the new year? I won't be doing much riding either way as the only seat I have been able to find is a beat up job from a guy that only ships on Wednesdays. That means it isn't shipping until the 28th. I'll have to recover it when it shows up too. How are there no new seats available in the US?

Slowly getting there. Everyone in the house was puking last night, and I'm done for the day. But fenders, exhaust, and side panels are completely attached. I have to make some random spacer doodads that didn't ship, and I can make the mounting boss for the tank even if I'm not attaching it just yet.

Those rad shrouds look different to the 11s we got here-better! Is that rear fender got the number plate holder incorporated into it? Put up a pic of it jus out of curiousity. Think it was dirtdame looking for one

It does. I'll snap a pic this evening or tomorrow. The breakdown didn't show the plate mount, but that's what they sent. I'll check the part number.

Wasn't planning to get this fender, but I do like it. Now I guess I need to hunt up a taillight that fits. Not sure how well my current one will go.

That's the one! Channelling dirtdame here's your fender. The oem tail light is ridiculously expensive
I already own the stinky OEM tail light. It came with the lighting kit when I bought the bike. That's why I was trying to get that fender.
