  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

First I would like to thank everyone in Advance, Thank You.

This is my first thread ever on this site so Hello every one, I have enjoyed all feed back that I have read from others post. I mainly just read since I just got this great machine to work on and I have gotten very valuable information on here. I am almost ready to go with this bike.

I have cleaned my carb inside out to my knowledge. The Main Jet, the Slow Jet, choke assembly, the whole carb inside and out. I am getting plenty of gas to the carb it is overflowing from the float also.

For testing purposes I put gas in the spark plug then put it back on re-assembled a few things and kicked it over and fired right up first kick.

When that happened the revved all the way up as if it was WOT. I killed it of course. I was glad the bike started so I know the motor is fine, it sounded great.

I cannot figure out why gas is not getting into the engine but it is getting to the carb. I have worked on many cars my whole life this is my first bike, yes I know to be careful on it :D.

The Carb is a keihin 38 PJ. Its jetted for the bike and the bike has a great history of not having issues. It just sat for awhile and the owner gave it to me.

The throttle doing what it did tells me its something to do with the the cable holder or jet needle or something. Before I keep taking the Carb apart and cleaning the same parts over I wanted some opinions on the strange issue with it hitting WOT with putting some gas in the cylinder and the fact no gas is pumping into the cylinder from the Carb. Getting plenty of gas to the Carb though so fuel lines are not issue I cleaned all of those. This is strictly a fuel issue since it fired up and ran briefly until I killed it. I have a new plug its getting great spark and everything.

not sure how what the problem is but how big of a difference does the 38mm carb make?
I am unable to give a lot of good information on that but the guy I got it from has a Yamaha 450F. He said this is way faster then that so I assume just getting the 38mm just allows it to make more power since more gas and air, the more power you get.

Bigger carbs usually will make bigger power period but there is always a cost, you just need to weigh that out.
