• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1988 430XC opinions???

well, its the pinnacle and the final evolution of the swedish 2 stroke big bore 2 stroke husky. the final refinement..
very good bike, has all the traits that made husky great. stable, broad power, smooth..good in the woods or open stuff. i personally think the 87-88 bikes have the best seat ever made, enabling you take on obstacles sitting down when you feel like it due to wanting to keep a low center of gravity or just being fatigued. the seat is also long for extreme positioning. the tank is comfortable to ride up on as well. good progressive brembos up front and the drum out back will ock if you like but also allows feathering. very very simple. heres mine, same machine in 250 flavor. i have spent a decent amount of time on the 430 version as well

x2 to that

87 and 88 are great bikes, better than 86 by a mile.
love the anti lock brakes they have wink wink, never did like the touchy 1 finger type like new stuff has.

my WR

the 87 88 design is great have a few of them

the 3rd is a 430 XC
you will be happy with one of these if you get it

2premo...question on the WR with XC suspension . Do you put a XC swingarm and shock on ? IIRC were the XC arm and shock bit longer for more travel ? Awesome bikes you have indeed.

it's even simpler than that, the swing arms except the CR (as it had a floating disc) are the same, the shock body itself is the same, the spring and rod are the difference, and it's even simpler on the stock original ones there was a spacer to limit travel on the WR, took that out of a WR shock to replace the shock on one of my XC's
obviously the WR has shorter inner fork legs
basically the WR was a shorter suspension XC with the headlight option stock and if you look at the subframe on the WR it had a hoop behind the seat to support a larger rear fender with a tail light and some had a gear bag mounted there
as an FYI the 87-88 430 was the preferred endure machine of it's day, even the euro hating magazines liked it over the jap rides, but it's possible they liked it because there have never been too many offerings from the jap 4

i suppose if theres a drawback to any of these is that they are big bikes...mine will call me out at times in the nasty stuff as the seat height is as tall as any modern bikes. i think sometimes the wr is key here. when you want to ride fast in rough terrain you will be surprised these bikes will handle it as good as anything. steering damper? whats that?

2premo, it's a 88 WR430 with 87 CR430 forks, shock, tank, subframe & early 90's number plate. The numberplate is what my semi-local dealer had on his wall when I needed one many years ago. It looks like a billboard but with the size of the bike I think it looked quite fitting & it fits the WP front end well. You were very close.

So huskyborn, whats the deal? You got a line on a bike for sale? You looking at a particular bike? Just thinking about getting one of these? If you are looking at a bike do you have pictures for us? We may be more helpful if we knew more about your inquiry.

i also have a CR tank and panels on one of my XC's, it thins up the forward area but limits your range
in the trees its handy as it makes weight transfer easier
