• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1986 CR500 engine into 1988 WR250 Frame

Hi,

I have just got hold of 1988 WR250 bike which came minus the engine. Originally, I was just going to use the bike as a donor to my '87 CR250, but as I now have enough parts to make two complete bikes I am going to try and save the WR. Obviously an engine would be crucial and as luck would have it a 1986 CR500 motor has just become available.

Would this fit without too many issues?

I am sorry if this may have been covered on other threads but I couldn't find this info.

Thanks

Chris

The exhaust system and the pieces from the airbox forward would be different. Or you could keep the airbox boot and use 38mm carb and rubber bits.

Hi Fran

The the 500cc comes with the expansion chamber and silencer, which has been modified to fit on to a 'wasp' side car outfit and has apparently been cut, turned and rewelded to suit. Hopefully it should be usable and with some work I could return it back to its original shape!

I suppose waiting for a 500 airbox and boot to become available, would take longer to happen, than finding a 38mm mikuni on ebay! Would the 500 airbox fit anyway? It looks similar.

Do you know how much rejetting would be required to get the 38mm to work with the larger engine?

Thanks for the advice

Chris

I didn't mean to create the impression the airbox was/is different. The rubber piece between the airbox and the carb is larger for the 40mm carb. As is the piece on the other side of the carb. The mono shock carbs are shorter than the dual shock ones. If you look in the reference section for 81 to 88 teck data document I am virtually positive the 1987 xc 500 went to a 38 mm carb and you could use those settings to start. The starting point for a keihin pwk 39mm recomendations I got were virtually the same for 430/500 if I recall correctly.

Hi,

Don't worry you didn't, its just me getting confused, sorry. I mentioned the 500 airbox and boot together because it looks as if the only way to obtain a used rubber boot would be to get the airbox too! (ebay etc)It seems the 500 boots are not available as a reproduction part which is strange as they are for earlier Husky's! I am thinking the 38mm carb is the easiest way to go... unless a good used rubber boot turns up.

Thanks alot for sharing your experience

Chris
