• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi,
Can't seem to find an OEM one.
Can some one tell me the size: _x_x_
If anyone has a service manual for sale I'm interested.
Thx,
Craig

It is just a sealed bearing with the seal only on the outside. The piece that looks like a seal on the parts diagram is just a nylon spacer.

Thx, it is odd, I just saw a diagram, never seen that setup, gotta pull the cover and see about a way to help seal it...

35 is a hard plastic spacer, not a seal.
Like Fran said the bearing is the seal. and its not a good one.
Bike needs to lean to the left on the kick stand so it doesn't leak. ;)

There is a seal for the bearing available. On the 1981 250CR engine I worked on , the seal for the bearing got impaired by the crank bearing replacement. The bearing was fine but the seal started to leak. The owner contacted Phillip at husqvarna-parts.com and was told the seal for the bearing is available separately. That countershaft shaft bearing is the same that is in the 82 & later 250, 430. and 400 engines.

Andy’s way is the proper fix but while your waiting for parts and the time to do it a quick band aid fix I used was to silicone number 9 to the case the silicone number 35 to the splines it slows down the “running seapage” a little.

This leak can be caused by parking too close to the Harley’s. They leak and the husky can pick up on their bad habits. Lmao.

only problem with andys fix...is that it doeesnt work on later cases 87-88. it is a nice piece of machine work tho..

I also enjoy the screw holes being completely open to the outside world. Than can seep also remember a little dap
of silicon seal, if your inside the cases.

Thx all. I will try the silicon first, the shipping is pricey for the correct fix, but I will likely go that route in do time.

There are ways to get that bearing out as long as you do not have an 87-88. Last engine I put together I bought 6205 bearings that were double sealed and probably ended up with 5 or so of the seals I pried out. Not sure if the seals are the same from one bearing maker to the next. Chances are same brand bearing (SKF) could be purchaced and the seal pried out and pushed in. Depends on how used the oil can still come out along the shaft itself and around the outer race. A real seal contacts both these surfaces at least usually. On my 500 the dealer had switched that bearing as a preventative measure and the rest lasted until the starter gears wore out and soon after that the big end on the crank went bad.

you are correct, my brother replaced a bearing one time through the side on his 86 500
he made a puller from something and used a little heat as I recall
