1984 wheel fit 1982 ??

Does any one know if a 1984 250 xc wheel will fit a 1982 250xc?

Want to keep the 17" but also want a 18" for more common tire fitment.
Found a decent deal on a 1984 wheel that is a 18"

Yes they will fit. I am running front and rear from a 84 on my 82 wr430. I used the spacers from the 84. I'm not sure you can use the 82 spacers. The left side is 2 piece on the 84 and 1 on the 82. You would have to see if the 82 spacer fits the seal on the 84. I think I just confused myself!!

yes but must use matching backing plate.

83-88 wheel will work with an 83 84 or an 85 twin shock backing plate
cannot use 82 backing plate with newer wheel

left rear spacer on 83 an 84 same width as 82. just cut so you can remove reare wheel in case of a flat with more ease and not have to pull off backing plate or wrestle wheel to get the 1 piecer out. lots of guys guy their 82s into 2 pieces old endure trick

Just for future wheel fitment search I have a 18" wheel on a 79 wr , I can't remember which spacer so it must not have been to big of an issue.

My stuff (and I do not have but one of each) the 1983 wheel is the one with wider shoes and no sort of interlock with the backing plate like 1984 and on. It is pretty easy to tell from a picture which is which. One mis match way, earlier plate later wheel there is a gap, other mis match way it rubs but will work in an emergency if a washer can be used inside and the swingarm fork spread a bit. 87-88 they turned off about a pound and it uses shorter sprocket bolts if I recall correctly.

Look at the profile in the area circled. If it is similar to 82 probably just a square corner it is the earlier. This picture looks like the later one but not high enough resolution to see (with certainty) the more complex features.


I am also pretty sure at one point I used even earlier wheel and backing plate combination, one that was designed like the cr, rod to frame, with narrower swingarm spacing. Just used enough spacers and the proper axle for the swingarm. Chain lined up, wheel seemed centered.

Motorcycle warehouse has IRC VULCANDURO 33 TIRES IN 17" rims. I use the 5:10-17".

I been using the volcanduro 33 tires for a longtime. I believe the four stroke Hondas are keeping the 17" rims alive. My husky cr390 chewed a lot of dirt and never ripped off any knobbies. Since I can't score any treleborgs anymore the "33" will do. I mainly ran the M5B's 18" and the "33" for 17".

same with all the cool mitas tires in europe...all the trelleborg molds they have and ice tires. i ordered my studded tires from europe, still cheaper than the gouging going on here for them..

I cleaned out a guys trelleborg tires here about 20 years ago. The ten masters were one of the best tires my huskies ever ran. But the IRC and M5B are the tires now.

mitas has all the trelleborg molds..they make the ten masters and others..i have mitas studded winter tires on my 360, they are the same tire as the old trelleborg winter frictions..its a shame theres no importer for their other tires or you would be ablde to have the "ten master" and the "deep grip" again.

I'm surprised that brand new KTM and Husqvarna doesn't come with Mitas tires? That would start the import for sure of the ten masters.

I spoke to the IRC importer today and they do not carry the 33 any more, no chance of getting one in England. It would be easier/ cheaper to have my 17" wheels built as 18" rather than import them from the USA

these are the mitas winter tires...but made with the old trelleborg molds, as they look identical..you would like the traction bill..

Why can't you order them from the online dirtbike guys here in the USA. Motorcycle super store?
