• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1983 Maico with Ohlin single shock, rebuild info needed

Any info on where to pick up rebuild kits or parts and pdf worksheets for the rebuild. 1983 Maico 490 with the original Ohlin single remote reservoir shock. Bike being rebuilt in California. Thanks beforehand.

Thor Lawson is the guy you want to get in touch with. google his name and it should bring you to his site.

Update, put in a shop to have the work done, ordered a rebuild kit and Ohlins oil. Shop called and said that the shock was hopeless and junk, come and pick it up. The shock was in pieces and they said it was the first Ohlins they had opened up and I suspect they screwed up the job. I'm now trying to clean up the mess. I'm moving along ok but have a question. The compression dampening adjustment assembly on the shaft needs disassembly. It has me at a standstill and looks as though the "shop" has trashed the internal threads. Does anyone have a clue on how it comes apart as I suspect there's orings that need replacing inside. The "shop" also said they couldn't get the remote reservoir apart and metal shaving were coming out of the threads and they just retightened it and said it's trashed. In a bad situation here, help?

need to send the shock to a shop that has experience with ohlins before more damage is done. its possibly a somewhat rare configuration being on the maico but should still be an ohlins inside. im on the east coast here, many of us use WER, as drew has done many ohlins and treats you right.
