  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1982 cr430 vs wr430

What are the big differances between the two models i have a Wr430
and was thinking about racing it and was wondering what the major differances are with the cr 430. IS it worth trying track one of these down instead.

The 430Wr has less suspension and sits lower. To be honest I thing the Wr's are easier to turn and handle better. Put a diffrent silencer on your WR and really wake it up. Pro-Form makes a pipe/silencer combo.

X2 Frog plus re-gear it then stiffen up the suspension, cut the extra frame rails off, go to 18"/19" rear wheel, add DLS front brake, port it....

the 64 dollar question

It comes down to what type of racing your doing, VMX vs Enduro? u didn't mention. Also depends on what level rider you are? If your starting again after years of being off ,the WR will be fine , even if your racing MX. Maybe you don't need the longer suspension & or could use the CR's difference in gearing.

I have a 82 430CR, i race VMX, B level racer & i love my bike.

The front and rear travel is shorter on the WR as stated. The rear swingarm is also shorter on the WR than a CR or XC. I ride a 82 430XC and I like the wide ratio trans. over the close ratio of the CR in most conditions. For begining in hare scrambles I would recommend as other have also, having your WR suspension rebuilt and set up for your weight and intended riding style. They money you spent on your suspension would be less than starting over with another bike that probably would need suspension work also! Have fun.

I beleave what iam going to do will be get itout get it runing fix any thing that needs to fixed. Race and see what kind of changes i would like to make to the bike by desiding what is laging. Thanks for all your help.

Well there have been new leads in the wr430, It was my dads bike he bought when i was a kid and it came with a parts bike i always thatought it was a WR because it had the lights on it. but the more i looked around here i realized that the lights where after market. so i ran the vin turns out it is a XC, and the parts bike was Cr a long time a go the cr frame was took by some one who cleanig out so of my dads scrap metal. Which wasn't the deal but we didn't realize it at the time. so know i really don't Know what part on the bike ar from what bike. i still have both sets of shocks, forks, the other motor and trans and about five tanks . shocks and fork wise is there really big differance.

Suspension between the Xc and CR is basically the same. Engines are different in porting and transmissions, close ratio vs wide ratio. Sounds like you have some good stuff to make it suit you!
