• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

good evening gents.
i have just purchase an OR250 as a project with the aim of possibly entering the vintage isde in France next year. could you help with the year, engine numbers are 2066 1872 and frame mm04938?
i require the following items at present;
rear mudguard
levers
air filter
18" rear wheel/rim
possible fork/wheel upgrade
wiring for lights?

as the bike has been parked for a while, what should i be looking for to uprate this classic bike??
Your help would be much appreciated in any information that you can pass onto me

check out husqvarnaparts.com you will find phil has most of what you want and he also has a comprehensive id chart.
HVA - Factory in uk is another good source of stuff for the bike. andy makes a lot of "unobtainium" parts

as its a rider, go with this.

download and print off the parts manual. this will tell you what bolts go where and all that type of stuff. good to have at hand

strip to frame taking careful note (photos) of where every thing goes.

check all bolts and send all the good serviceable ones to an electroplater.

make a list of worn bolts and buy new ones to length-every bolt and nut has a specific purpose on these bikes so be particular-refer the manual

buy a box of 6mm nuts, 8mm nuts and 10mm nuts in nyloc of course.

Forks, you can upgrade to the 40 mm forks I believe. search here, lots of discussion. plent of sets floating around. if your less than 5'11, go with the WR spec sliders and dampers. CR may be too tall. up to you.

maybe give the frame a quick sand and a coat of paint. up to you.

check and replace head set bearings (keep in mind 40mm fork conversion..)

check and replace cables..(get new ones)

check and grease (or replace) swing arm bearings get shockers serviced.

have the engine stripped and checked and replace all seals (VIP as old seals can fail and destroy your engine), replace all the needle roller bearings in the engine. check and replace all others as required.

I would replace the pawl and spring in the kicker mechanism. Note that the husky clutch cover comes off with the kicker and the gear lever still in them. don't undo them unless the seals need replacing....fun and games in that kicker unless you know the game

check clutch plates, get a gasket kit etc. check cyl and piston big and small end bearings etc.

get the exhaust cleaned and dint freed ditto the muffler, replace all the rubber hanging doowickies.

assemble her back together. - wheels. grease brake pivots in the hubs, replace the wheel bearings and brake shoes -ebc shoes.recover the wiring in heat shrink and tidy it up.

new chain and sprox

go riding

ps wiring diagrams for the various ign's are on here, again search the forum

also replace the airfilter before you do anything else, they have ahabit of crumbling and being sucked into the engine.

also replace the carb and the carb mounting rubbers, the carb most likely will be worn out (good if it isn't) and its easier to rejet a new carb than work with an old leaky one.

once your done the bike should be good for another 20 years of riding before needing more work.

you can shiny it up with new plastics but the first muddy ride will turn them into used plastics and you probably have some of those all ready

enjoy the rebuild, heres my bus, I have to go:thumbsup:

Anti seeze all the fasteners, swing arm bolt, axles ect.

It's a '78 250 OR nice ride awesome tranny. The first three gears 1-3 are wr(wide ratio) the next three gears are cr (close ratio). The nice part about it you don't have to wind up the rpms to keep the speed up to shift to 4th, 5th, 6th gears. It's right there with the cr gears.
