  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1975 WR 125 Cross compatibility parts / cranks

Fargowind

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hello CafeHusky, i just started a restoration project on a 125 husky 1975 that had been sitting in a back yard for 30+ years. I have been able to find most of the parts i needed, but the crank shaft seems to be close to impossible to find. I was wondering if anybody knew if there was some sort of cross compatibility between several years and models to broaden my search. I have heard that 175 and 125 of that era had most of the same lower engines for instance but haven't been able to confirm that.
thanks for you help,
Ed

same rod from 74 to 87....crank I dont know and even rods for that are unobtainium except for sick money

Thanks Joe. That's helpful. the crank I have doesn't look too bad but the rod is broken. I might be able to find one and get it mounted on the actual crank... Do you know it those rods are common to the 125 and 175 or they are common for the same displacement only?
Thanks,
Ed

common from 74 to 87....also called the long rod 125 (even though a short stroke...but was londer than the pre 74 rod.....not common either....meaning available. if rod broke i would bet some got below and scratched crank pin and big end bearing too.

That makes the hunt a lot easier. Do you know if the 175 and 125 rods were the same? the rod didn't break with the engine running, i broke it while pulling the cylinder off :-(. the piston was seized (pretty bad corrosion in the lower cylinder and lower engine crank cavity - see below for kicks )

and after I exhausted all options pushing it down the cylinder (the contraption i made with a bolt and 3/8" plate to mount atop of the cylinder wasn't pushing the piston down anymore and i didn't want to cause any damage to the crank and rod ironically) so i opted to use synthetic slings and ratchets to pull the cylinder out which worked for a while until the load was too great for the rod to bear... in retrospect i don't know how i could have removed the piston any other way but it was unfortunate...

I personally would not sink $1 more into that. Much better starters than that. That will cost so much in long run as nothing from that crank is reusable....nothing

i do agree that it doesn't look pretty and the crank does look worrisome. Ideally I'd like find a crank for it, but i need to finish tearing down the engine to see what other bad surprises its keeping to be able to decide whether to find a new engine or fix this one. the rest of the bike is in surprisingly good shape and i have time... It wouldn't be the worst bike i've restored, just the youngest one ;-)
