Hi all, so yesterday i bought a 74 WR125 from a friend, i am the second owner. It had a restoration 18? years ago and has never run right, He wasn't much of a wrench, but in his efforts years ago, he put on a TM32 mikuni. (said it was a kit/) , and it has a jemco chamber, the stock airbox has been set up to work as well. I have a whole garage of vintage 2 stroke bikes (street) and am very familiar with these carbs.
The motor is fresh, everything is basically brand new, and it has maybe an hour run time on it. has been in aclimate controlled environment and kicked over regular.
The bike runs absolutely pig rich. I have cleaned the carb correctly, (all the way apart, etc). The ignition is an MZB (now vape) cdi and works well. it will sit there and idle all day just fine, free rev, etc. but under load it just falls on its face, and fouls the plug.
I changed the jet tube from a 389-Q2 to a 389-P8 series which is a drastic change, and it still just unbelievably rich.
My heart is not set on a flatslide on this, I am ok to run a VM32 or 34. i have boxes of carbs i can try but trying to cut down some of the 'start from scratch' tuning.
far as i know the original carb is long gone.
Can anyone help with some suggestions on a starting point?
also, it was set up to be street legal, has full lighting (baja designs setup) and will be used as such.
