• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1973 400 cr - parts and info

Crojack

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hello,

I'm starting work on a pretty beat 400cr. First up I know I'll need a piston and possibly a conrod and crank. Somebody left the carb off and I can see the piston rusted inside the intake port. Not sure about the rest as I haven't got the barrel off yet. I'm planning a full rebuild anyways.

Is anyone making replacement pistons? I looked on the wiseco site and they did not have one.

What other engine parts are hard to source? I'm hoping bearings are standard sizes that I can get from a bearing shop.

Also, is there a good manual for this bike out there? I'm in the US and can't find anything except some Clymers on ebay, but they come from UK. Is the Clymer worth it?

Thanks for your help!

Better than nothing ! The parts list on this site is a great source of info. There does not seem to be a workshop manual there though.

Thanks! Didn't know to search for MK & ML. This is my first foray into old husky's. What about pistons?

John doesn't list all the stuff he has on the site, but call him. He had the piston for my 400 in stock last summer. Good guy to get advice from also, phone # listed on his site.

Are there specific tools I'll need to pull this motor apart? Other than a crank puller, and typical tools. I know the manual calls out a case splitter, but is it needed?

Couldn't agree more steve,

John has been an invaluable source for the engine stuff mine has needed, he's not the cheapest guy around but i'm not bothered about that because he always helps out with advice when i call, he's running a business, time is money so i support his business buying what i need, he supports my build helping me with the advice i need to move forward.

The clymer manual is a virtual reprint of the factory one, i have both and they're both pretty vague, but it's all there is so take plenty of photos and make lots of notes as you pull it apart, i was a vintage virgin before i started on my '71 but the guys here have been super helpful, get a good supplier on your side like john and you will be fine.
