• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

19" Front Wheel Build

withiam

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have completed the 19" wheel build for my 2009 SM610. This was talked about in a previous thread located here:

http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/dual-sport-tires.25574/

My tires are Dunlop TR91. 110/80-19 up front with a 150/70-17 on the back.
Installation was fairly straight forward except for the caliper to spoke clearance. I had to shave down the leading edge of the caliper (~1/16") so the spokes did not make contact. I sprung for a new hub for this upgrade instead of breaking down my 17". If the time comes to sell the bike, I believe most buyers would want the 17" front so I felt it best to leave it intact.

For me, this provides a nice compromise between the stock 17" and a 21" front wheel. My riding is primarily on secondary roads. I have only ridden it about a 100 miles so I am still trying to sort out if I need to raise the forks up a bit or leave it stock. Bike does sit taller.
For now, it is a great Gravel Cruiser.IMG_0006.JPGIMG_0014.JPGIMG_0013.JPG

You wont have to lower the forks. The thinner front tire rolls over faster.

I had my forks lenghtened 1" and softened so I had to drop mine 'till it hit the fender.

Are those TE front forks or didn't the SM610 use radial mount calipers? I need that caliper adapter you're running to put a 320 front disc on my TE630. Know who makes it?

SM610 has a regular mount front caliper.
Image only shows difference between radial and regular.

That adapter bracket has a Husky logo cast into it.
I should imagine you can buy it from one of the Husky dealers.

Heya Withiam

Do you have the part numbers for the Hub & Rim ?
I'd like to do the same setup on my SM610 as there is a better choice of tyres for the 19" front.

Thanks

Husqvarna front hub assembly (P/N 8B0096838). It cost about $242 and was purchased at Halls Cycles. The rim is an Excel product purchased through my wheelsmith in Florida. No part number available but I can steer you his way. I can PM or email his info. The spokes were made by Buchannan.

Ah right cool, I'll have to have a chat with Husky Sport in the UK and see what they can recommend.
Not sure I would be up for shipping over a wheel from the United States as the import would cripple me.

So the spokes need to be custom made for the wheel setup ?
It might be that I would need to get them from the US.

I'd like that contact info on your wheel builder. I'd like to move to a 19" for my TE630.

Do you know what width the front rim is ?
Thanks

Rim is 2.5" wide. I found this information on the shipping box right before I tossed it the other day. I'm sure it was the box the wheel came in from Excel to my builder.
My builder used it to ship my completed wheel to me.

Put some TXC80s on it and see how well it goes in the dirt!

Thats what I run.

I use a narrower rear rim..a 3.50" I/O the stock 4.25".

I've seen a set of Enduro wheels 21/18 up for grabs that will fit my bike (Hubs/spindles for the 2009 610)
Thinking of grabbing those and then I can at least get the front built into the 19" if needed.
I also don't wish to split my wheels down.

I've been looking around for wheelsmiths in the UK and there just doesn't seem to be that many around. Probably need to search harder but only found the one.

If need be I'll see if I can get the rim and spokes and lace it myself.
Do you have any information on the spokes that are used ?

As an alternative to the 19" front would it not be possible to change the front Mud guard to something more motorcross orientated rather than the SM which points down and just run the 21 with a smaller brake ? (removing the caliper hitting spokes issue)

Thanks for your time guys!

Well I brought the set of enduro wheels. They should be with me at the end of the week.
Also grabbed a front brake and mudguard from a TE to swap over for clearance issues.

Will let you know how I get on and whether I need to build a 19" front if this lot still catches while riding off road.

A 21" front wheel will rip the front fender off an SM.

Withiam, Do you think they could replicate the spokes for another wheel and then ship them to the UK ?
Did you get an order number or anything I can give them to ask the question.

I'll see what the clearance is like with the 21" wheel and the TE Fender on my SM.
I have brought the TE Fender to replace the SM Fender.

If that doesn't make enough clearance I'll get the 19" wheel built.

I don't have an order number for the spokes but if you call my wheelsmith I'm sure he would share that with you. I believe I sent you his information. Send me a PM if I didn't.

This wheel is for sale in the classifieds. Makes a nice addition to any SM610. There may be others that use the Husqvarna front hub assembly P/N 8B0096838.
